My feet hurt!

I am working 16 hour shifts on the weekends and my feet burn something awful by the end of the second say. So does anyone know of a good shoe that might help? I have tried Danskos and they aren't doing it for me.......

I used to have the same problem. I bought a pair of Shox on the advice of some coworkers and haven't had a problem since! I know they don't work for some people, but they definitely worked for me!

I can't wear Danskos, they're like wooden shoes to me. I wear some extra cushioned Saucony's - running shoes. Lots of arch support and support hose (control top, I use Legg's Active support that don't fall! You can buy them at CVS). I used to wear Nike's, Reebok's, you name it... Saucony's, so far, work great.

Landau comforts... i have to wear all white leather shoes so I bought some $60 nikes trying to make an effort to still look cute at clinical... after the second day I bought the Landaus... not perfect but sooooo much better than the nike. I am also gonna try the support hose even though I'm young... anything to make my feet feel better!!!

young is when you should start wearing support hose. Any repetitive, jarring, 12 hours of standing trauma to the legs will have a cumulative effect on your legs. Keep that blood flowing and your legs healthy.

Skechers Shape-ups! I do a 12hr and come home and don't even feel the need to take them off. Really really worth the $90.

(haven't done a thing to improve the shape of my behind though :( )

Try Laudau Foot Wear Rx Comfort shoes. I buy them at scrub stores. These are the only shoes that have worked for me. I can work a 12 hour (or longer) shift running all day and my feet barely now hurt if at all. My feet used to KILL me when working 12 hour shifts. Most of the time they don't hurt at all. I tried Danskos (an absolute waste of money for me as I hated them), New Balance, Crocs, Nike Shox. Nothing helped until the Landau shoes. They have been a miracle for my feet.

A fellow nurse of mine wears the Skecher Shape-Ups too and says her feet don't hurt anymore. Worth a try too.

I went to a running store and had them analyze my foot. They recommended a shoe based on those tests and it has been spot on. I wear a stability shoe by New Balance. It isn't the most expensive or the cheapest. My feet/legs no longer hurt after my shifts. They were worth every penny! I would recommend having your feet analyzed at one of these places. You do not have to purchase from them but the information was worth it.

Me, too. I love their shoes.

I like the Sketcher Shape Ups. My back and feet used to hurt after a 12 hr shift when I was wearing Nike walking shoes with inserts. Once I started wearing the Shape Ups my back and feet both quit hurting at the end of the shifts :)

My question is "Why are you working 16 hr shifts on a recurrent basis?" This is unhealthy for you and unsafe for the patients. If there were some acute need on occassion, then ,yes, it's okay. But all the time? No way. You are probably getting less than 6 hours sleep between, and you are setting yourself up for a disaster.

I have a pair of Avia AviMotion toning sneakers that I wear. As someone mentioned, they don't do a thing for the shape of my butt but they DO change the way I stand and walk. Not only do my feet feel better, my back, knees and ankles no longer ache after a day on my feet. I can't claim to be 100% pain free but I love these things way more than my old Reebok non-skid work sneakers.
