Gender neutral gone too far -- removing "Mr and Mrs" aka male and female species. Why not just add "Potato Head" for those who desire gender neutral play.
Guess, I'm not up of current children's play toys thinking, as I loved Mr Potato Heads mustache. Able to eat wax candy version as a kid....sigh, another childhood memory robbed from today's children. ---loved playing with the wax red lips too.
Still available Wack-O-Wax mustache + lips --now part of the Tootsie company.

LGBT folks, we've been here in the shadows for a very long time and society is finally allowing us to step out and actually be identified. People are finally expressing their sexuality and gender in ways they haven't been able to because of society's attitude. Education on being trans is an imposition? Are you afraid you're going to catch something and start wearing dresses? I'm sure non binary and gender fluid folks are a real big imposition as well. It is completely fine to not understand and even not agree, but to not even want to try to understand, that wreaks of phobia. After all of your posts that I've read from you, I sincerely doubt that you are truly transphobic.
I am not transphobic! But as a very large person I have always been noticed and I hate being noticed. Which is why I like Europe more. Tall people are not noticeable and people are rude enough to ignore you. Love that!
I don't believe in treating anyone differently and being noticed allows those idiotic anti LGBT to express their hate. We don't live in a utopian society. There are about 70 million people who actually agree with the idiot's idol in Florida.
The reason I don't want to understand is that it's not IMPORTANT TO ME!
I don't see you as different so why should I be interested? I'm not interested in how a Mexican immigrant feels because they are human and I know they feel the same as I do. Are you saying that you don't feel pain or joy or disappointment? So how are you different? You want to wear dresses. Doesn't half the population wear dresses? As long as you experience the same emotions, you are not different!
I am interested however, in how you are treated. You deserve the respect and consideration of every other person. I also don't know what non binary or fluid people are and again, not interested! The operative word is people! People are different in all sorts of ways. Tall, short, skinny, fat, skin color, eyes, hair etc, why should that interest me? I'm interested in that they are people! I am only interested in that people be given the same opportunities to express themselves freely and afforded the same rights as expressed in the constitution.

It's not about "highlighting difference", it's about some people's right to exist and asserted that.
I agree that LGBTQIA persons are really "no different" from everyone else in that we all are unique yet the same. But not everyone in society accepts or respects that concept.
Still transpeople were banned from the military under Trump. It wasn't until 2021 that HUD expanded discrimination in housing to include LGBT people. I was fired in the 80's from a job for being gay. In my lifetime bars were raided, homosexuals put in mental institutions and jail. Floridians voted against gay marriage and it was only through the Supreme Court that gay marriage is legalized.
As long as people like Marjorie Taylor Greene is out there rejecting the right of people to exist, people are going to have to assert themselves, even if it stirs the pot.

Now assertion I totally agree with! Get into positions where you can educate people re making the difference.
When people say different, I identify that could be another sex (women) and look at how men discriminated against women. I see a black person and look at how society arranged themselves re. When people begin accepting others as the same then things change. They feel as if they are hurting themselves.
There's always going to be rotten eggs and you can't legislate the changes but you can educate the changes. Look at the last four years re BLM etc. All the racism came out of the woodwork. You will never change people like MTG or Cruz etc. They are inherently bad and time is better spent educating and influencing the younger generation. I also don't believe in stirring the pot, however adding more flavorful ingredients generally drowns out the more distasteful flavors.
Humans follow trends! In my short lifetime, I remember the scandal of rap and hip hop, and now it's the popular thing. As long as something becomes cool, it's acceptable. Don't reinvent the wheel!

Yes we all have much in common, we're all human beings and that's great. But the truth is that differences remain, and that should be celebrated not feared or shamed. In our society and throughout history people who were different were often shunned, persecuted, or exiled. Not just due to skin color, gender expression, or sexuality, but also size, facial features, personality, eccentricity, interests, education, spiritual or religious beliefs. Diversity has been feared and suppressed, but by embracing and understanding people's differences, true tolerance can form and allow all of us to grow as people. I really enjoy learning about people's unique experiences and identities it makes the world seem a lot bigger. I know you say that you're not interested in understanding certain differences, but I'm skeptical of that. You are a psych nurse, and psych nursing is probably the nosiest of all specialties ? and we really come across some unique individuals, as mental health providers you provide the understanding that so many of these individuals lack in their daily lives.
My oldest son asked me what was up with Mr Potato Head --pulled up this thread. 6 Dr. Seuss books will no longer be published as after review, felt to have some racist character depictions. Change not equaling cancel well expressed in this piece.
CNN Chris Cillizza opinion 3/02/21
QuoteThe prevailing message that emerged from last weekend's annual Conservative Political Action Conference wasn't that Joe Biden is a bad president or that Donald Trump is great..
It was that Mr. Potato Head had been canceled.
"Look out, Mr. Potato Head, you're next," said Florida Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz said in his speech. "I'm sorry, I think now he's going by Potato X. He can't be Mr. Potato."
Donald Trump Jr., the eldest son of the former president, also referenced Hasbro's decision to change the name of its children's toy from "Mr. Potato Head" to simply "Potato Head." (Hasbro explained its decision this way: "Hasbro is making sure all feel welcome in the Potato Head world by officially dropping the Mr. from the Mr. Potato Head brand name and logo to promote gender equality and inclusion.")
The alleged canceling of Mr. Potato Head was not just consistent with the dominant theme of the CPAC gathering -- a banner proclaiming "America Uncanceled" was prominently displayed on stage -- but also with where Republicans (and their conservative media allies) have gone, in terms of messaging, in the immediate post-Trump era.
That message? Liberals are trying to cancel long-cherished cultural touchstones -- solely because it doesn't comport with their preferred vision for America....
... What is happening -- in all three of these most recent instances -- is that the culture is changing. Changing to incorporate more views from more varied perspectives -- not just the opinions of what White people (and mostly) men think is acceptable or not.
Change ≠ cancel. Change and evolution in our culture and our society is both necessary and unstoppable. The idea that we have always had everything right or that we can't always be growing closer to a more perfect union is not only narrow-minded but fundamentally anti-American....
I am a bit sick of Republicans taking up the mantle of "cancel culture" when it suits them. Josh Hawley was Tweeting and whining that he was trying to be canceled yesterday.
Their the one's that didn't acknowledge a legated election and wanted it canceled, they want to cancel a women's right to choose, they want to cancel a persons right to marry in the same sex (although I think they have moved on a bit from that), they are the one's that want to cancel all gender identities, on and on. Me thinks they protest too much.

They want to cancel the voice of any republican who criticizes Trump or calls on them to do the right thing rather than the politically expedient thing.
Projection is a reliable and frequent tool of modern republicans.
Weren't they always gender neutral? I mean Ken doesn't exactly have all his anatomy, neither does Barbie. I loved candy cigarettes. I say them at a Mexican mom and pop store a few years ago. Was surprised caused a thought they were banned. I should see if they are still selling them, just for the heck of it.

It's sort of like starting a rumor in HS about someone, every idiot is likely to get involved. Like the raised nail that gets hammered down. Like putting your hand up to answer a question. Like a general with his gaudy medals and ribbons. Like a peacock's tail. The white wolf or whale gets noticed.
The point of camouflage is to blend in.
Highlighting difference does make one stand out and my point is, that there are NO DIFFERENCES!
In which possible way are they different from anyone else? They might feel different but I'll be honest I have quite a few gay friends because of their humor, but I really don't want to know about the rest. I'm grossly hetero and probably I've learned culturally or socially to feel distaste, but my humanity and education trumps that feeling!
They are a fellow human being and I will treat them as such. In my eyes, they are no different from anyone else and deserve all the rights and opportunities afforded everyone else.
I also don't like to stand out. I'm the back of the room kind of person who doesn't like to be noticed. I'm only interested in content and not the packaging. Anti LGBT people are not operating with a full deck and do not process information appropriately, therefore I think it's wrong to give them the opportunity to notice you. I don't try to convince people to my point of view if they don't possess the capacity to or I don't care about them.
When children are young, they have little idea of racism. It's only as they get older, through society's and cultural perspectives, do they become racist. That is a form of highlighting to me.
