Did anyone else get a call to fill in for a sick call today? Why was I not surprised?
Answer: Certain people seem to get sick conveniently at certain times.
I ignored the call and went back to sleep.
*sigh*
This was also my regular weekend off. I got "the call" this morning at about 0930. I'm not a big football fan but I still said no to coming in to work. To their credit they were offering bonus pay and would take a 4 or 8 hour shift if I preferred...We normally work 12. I might have gone for 4 but I have been sick with the stomach crud and still don't feel up to par.
Where I work, if you call off on a weekend then you must make up your weekend.
I didn't have a dog in this fight, but I have to admit it was highly satisfying to see Bill Belicheat and the Patriots lose............
Poor Bill walking off the field with 1 second on the clock, I felt sorry for him.
I've seen more historical events on the TV while at work, then anywhere else. Most shifts were short but pleasant, and alcohol doesn't seem to matter whether it's football or a trial.
i have to say i called in - not for superbowl but for one throwing up daughter who has a fever of 102 and a sick husband who also had a fever of 101. i had a 4 year who was running wild. a 13 year old who fell on the ice and hurt his back. i couldnt get anyone to come to watch the kids. so it was up to me to stay home with them.
I also think people forget that when it comes to sick kids it always falls to the mother to take care of them. day care wont take them, babysitter with other kids doesnt want to watch them.
I am a big football fan but calling out on a weekend takes a HUGE chunk out of my pay check. So I worked last night and had the pleasure of watching one of our docs doing a happy dance down the middle of the hallway. I have to admit, I was so happy to see the GIANTS bring down the PATS, that I considered dancing down the hallway with him!
LOL!

I went in and things started off slow and ok. Then 2 of the aides got pulled to 2 different floors, so our day shift aide came in (we had one call off this morning, but she's called off for the last 3 days, so we pretty much have learned not to count on her) and things were good... till about 2200.... then everyone started pooping and needed beds changed. Of course, this is my end of shift and I&O's time to get done. Had 3 admits too. Vitals got done at 2330 (time to punch out) and charting took another half hour. I was busy all night long, so it was a good thing... and so satisfying to see those last 35 seconds... I even did a Happy Dance in the middle of the hallway.
