MJC 2019 application period

Published

Hey all,

While looking at information for the Modesto Junior College RN program I came across an awesome thread on here for the 2018 application period. It was great to read through and see how much they motivated each other. It gives us an opportunity to stress together and bond while waiting to see if we get in. I am hoping to make a successful thread for those of us ready to apply in May.

Best of luck to all

I am planning to apply for MJC with 73 points, but I feel as though that I will not have a chance because it is very low.

However, I read a girl with 73 points was offered a spot for this Spring last October.

This is true. 73 was the lowest admitted this Spring. In the Fall it was 74. It has had a slight upward trend over the last few years. I'm hoping to get in with 77, and I honestly feel fairly comfortable with that. I know it's not the highest by far, but I finished every prerequisite in 1.5 years. My only regret is taking Stats and Physiology in the same Summer semester. The one B really killed me, but at least my 90 on the TEAS brought me back up into the competitive range.

Yes I also read one girl got in with 73 points! U never know u might still get in.... I have to score high on the teas to be competitive. I have to score at least a 92! I have heard people doing it ????

Does anyone know how Colombia works, regarding the application process? I know when you apply it has to be for either MJC or Colombia but could both have different cutoffs? This is what I was thinking but a counselor told me it was the same. Then I read that the cutoff for Colombia was 71 and for mjc it was 73

That is 100% correct that Columbia admitted with 71 and MJC with 73. They are completely separate applications. You choose one, and that is it. So if nobody but one person applied at Columbia, then they would get in as long as they had the very minimum qualifications.

Thank you halfcourt95k for confirming. Now do you know where Colombia students have clinicals and about how many people apply to Colombia?

For semesters 1, 3, and 4 we will do our clinicals in Sonora. For semester 2 we do our clinicals in Modesto.

We had MJC program reps come and talk to us at Columbia. I don't remember the exact number, but quite a few people apply. It is just as impacted as any other RN program in California. Per year, we only have 20 spots to Modesto's 80.

Thank u ean6878! Will you be applying to Colombia? If u dont mind me asking, how many points do u have?

Yes I will be applying to Columbia. I have 79 points. We have some really good students applying this cycle so I wouldn't be surprised if the cutoff ends up being higher than 71 this year.

That's good to know... is there a thread for Colombia?

Hello All!!

Currently finishing up my pre req's and so for have 65 points without the TEAS. I will be taking the TEA's last minute May 28th? How long did everyone study before taking the test? I'm giving myself a month. You all look like you have really good points!!

Hey, Irene!

My name's Andrew and I'm currently one of the first semester ADN students at MJC. I scored a 95.3% on my TEAS. It's totally possible, just be willing to reeaaally work hard for it (which in all honesty is going to be good practice for when you get in the program because it's going to feel like your taking 3 TEAS's every weak, but you have to get a 76.5% to pass your class). The best advice I can give you is to purchase the paperback study guide from ATI with the two online tests. Study at least one module from the study guide every single day but do not limit yourself to the content that's on the study guide.... and they tell you that in the introduction of the book. Really hone in on the science section, especially anatomy, physiology, and microbiology. And spend a good amount of time on math because you'll be doing more complex medication/IV calculations when you get in the program.

I wish you and all who are applying the very best of luck!!!! Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.

See you guys in clinical ?

Andrew

Hello Andrew thank you for your tips!!

How long did you study for to prepare for the TEAS test?

Also would you recommend or do you think its doable working while attending the nursing program.

Thank you
