MJC 2019 application period

Published

Hey all,

While looking at information for the Modesto Junior College RN program I came across an awesome thread on here for the 2018 application period. It was great to read through and see how much they motivated each other. It gives us an opportunity to stress together and bond while waiting to see if we get in. I am hoping to make a successful thread for those of us ready to apply in May.

Best of luck to all

Hello Andrew thank you for your tips!!

How long did you study for to prepare for the TEAS test?

Also would you recommend or do you think its doable working while attending the nursing program.

Thank you

Chasity

Chasity,

great question!! I’ve heard most students say they do not recommend it. However, I’ve talked to one or two that have had to work full time and have found ways to make it work. You might be the best resource as you know what you can and can’t handle. Whatever you choose, I’m sure you’ll have the support of your cohort. We’re all in this together ?

Hello All!!

Currently finishing up my pre req's and so for have 65 points without the TEAS. I will be taking the TEA's last minute May 28th? How long did everyone study before taking the test? I'm giving myself a month. You all look like you have really good points!!

It’s a good idea to study as much as you can to give yourself the best possible chance. I did a little studying here and there, but with 17.5 units this semester and 4 kids at home there wasn’t much time. I cleared my 3 day weekend right before my TEAS, then proceeded to get sick and slept through it. I still managed an 85. But know that I could’ve done better had I actually spent more time.

I will be taking Physics during my first semester, granted I am accepted. I would like to finish both the Physics and O. Chem series while in the nursing program so that I can apply to grad school when I am done with the RN program. Either Med School, DPT, or Nurse Practitioner. I just haven't decided which one yet. I think working is definitely possible during this program. I can't imagine limiting myself to just studying, the mind needs exercise outside of that realm as well.

Hey there, Chastity! You’re welcome ?

I recommend studying for 30-60 minutes every day the month before your TEAS. Then 3-4 days before your exam date, study hardcore. You can do it!!! Believe in yourself.

And yes, working part-time is doable! There’s a number of folks in our class who do (I’m not one of them, haha). But 3rd and 4th semesters, not so much haha.

And Halfcourt95 I think that’s really ambitious that you want to take physics and O-chem during nursing school, but I think you’re kind of setting yourself up there and you might be seriously underestimating how seriously rigorous this program is. Because it’s not “just studying," although you’ll be doing an immense amount of that, lol. And the content you do study and test on isn’t anything like what you’re used to from your prerequisites (it’s harder). And if you’re not studying, you’re in skills lab. If you’re not in skills lab, you’re in clinical. If you’re not in clinical, you’re in sim lab. You’re always behind! Haha. You will work harder for an A than you ever have before. One thing I think might be good to know is that if you do get in to the nursing program, you’re going to be with 39 other classmates who are as smart as you, have worked as hard as you, and at LEAST one (but probably more) person/s will be even smarter than you and worked even harder than you (I 100% guarantee this, I had to learn this myself lol) ;D ….and not a single person will feel like nursing school isn’t extremely hard work. It’s a very humbling experience, for many reasons.
But the beautiful thing is that once you’re in, you don’t have to be competitive anymore. In fact, you will do much better if you’re less competitive and work as a team-player. Your friends in nursing school quickly become your family…. and you will need them ?

Wishing everyone the best…. T-3 days until the application opens!!!

And halfcourt, by "you'll do better if you're less competitive" I didn't mean you specifically! I meant that as a general statement ??

I was hoping that wasn't specific. Because there are always exceptions to the rule. ;) I literally have no fear taking one extra science course with the nursing program. All good my friend.

At my age, and everything I have been through, and realizing what opportunities I have missed out on in life... NOTHING is getting in my way.

Good for you, Halfcourt!!!

Hello did anyone apply for the Respiratory Program at MJC I can't find a forum for it and was curious to see if anyone applied for that program as well?

Lol at the arrogance in this post. Who are you to tell someone if working in the program is “definitely possible?” You haven’t even made it in yet. I am someone who never really has to study, but let me tell you nursing school is humbling. You will have to study, but it is so much more than that. Your mind will not be “limited to studying” lol. There are difficult skills to learn, patient interactions, and clinicals are a beast all their own.

Maybe you are taking what I'm saying out of context? No need to get all worked up. People do work through this program, I know several who have. So it is definitely possible; I never said it was for everyone either though.

Edit: I mean, if anything, I'm trying to be encouraging. The first step to being able to do something is believing in yourself.

Hello,

I was wondering for the science GPA, does MJC use plus and minuses? It says an A is 4 points, does that apply to an A- as well?

That is correct. With MJC an A is an A. Regardless of it being a 90% or 100%
