Hey all,
While looking at information for the Modesto Junior College RN program I came across an awesome thread on here for the 2018 application period. It was great to read through and see how much they motivated each other. It gives us an opportunity to stress together and bond while waiting to see if we get in. I am hoping to make a successful thread for those of us ready to apply in May.
Best of luck to all
Here's my opinion on the new MSPAR. The average points to get in the nursing program wil be higher because instead of taking 50 applicants strictly on the point system, they are only taking the top 40 because they want to take in 10 applicants from the lottery per semester.
For example, the lowest score for spring 2019 that got in was 73. With the new MSPAR system, the lowest score to get in will be higher (probably 75-78) because it is now much easier to accumulate more points because the point system isn't heavily weighted on the science prereqs and TEAS(where most people lose points).
Hello all and happy application month. I know that we are all obsessing about making sure our applications are perfect so we do not get disqualified. I went to see Marcos yesterday so he could go over my application before submitting it. Thankfully he caught some things that I missed that could have disqualified me. Now after I submitted it I went home and logged in again to see my submitted application and for some reason my English class does not show nor do the points for it. ON the summary it does show my full points just not on the "submitted application" part. I did call Donna and enquired about it and she said she could not see it either but that as long as my summary did have all my points I should not worry too much. How ever she did advice to send a message to the nursing email just incase things go haywire I have documentation. any one else having this same issue?
Update: I fixed I just deleted it and re wrote it again. Now it appears on the application. ?

The new mspar though(for fall 2020 and spring 2021 and later) i think u need 80 points bcuz 20% are being considered for the lottery which make the average score to get in higher.
Yes, but they are changing the criteria. So depending on one's strengths and weaknesses their score may go up or down. My score would go up based on what I discussed with Marcos.
Nope, the average score will go up.
The old MSPAR(spring 2019 and earlier), they take the top 100 applicants based off their MSPAR points per year. The new MSPAR they take the top 80 a year and 20 will be given randomly through the lottery; therefore, it will definitely be more competitive because there is less spots based strictly on points.
It's also much easier to accumulate more points because they are reducing the TEAS points from 20 to 15 and science GPA from 30 to 27. Which means, even if you have a 4.0 GPA on your science prerequisites, if you don't have the other criteria handled, you probably will be snubbed out.
i'm expecting the averages will go up. If you don't have at least 80 points and you are applying from fall 2020 or later, you are out of luck.
btw, i'm taking nursing 115, so we'e discussed the new MSPAR in detail.

Hi I had a question. You mentioned the new application month will be in February. But I was confused because you said February 2020 and then February 2021. So let’s assume I don’t get in this May 2019, I can apply again in February 2020? And will it still be only once a year? Thanks for any info!

The new MSPAR will be updated on june 2019 but here are the changes that will occur (according to my nursing 115 instructor)
They are taking a total of 100 applicants for fall and spring conbined. 20 of those will lottery. 80 will be the point system. Basically it's 50 applicants per semester, 10 will be lottery, 40 will be in the point system.
Science prerequisites(2A) will be 27 points instead of 30 points.(physiology, microbiology, anatomy)
non-Science prerequisites(2D ) will now be 15 points instead of 10 points. (sociology, psychology, comm etc)
ADN to BSN GE Certification(2F) will now be 5 points instead of 2 points
Teas will now be 15 points instead of 20 points
The new application deadline will now start Feb 2021 instead of may 2020. So if you finish your prerequisites on spring 2020, you have to wait until Feb 2021 to apply for MJC's nursing program. The next batch to turn in your application(presuming of course you finished all your prerequisites and TEAS is Feb 2020)
the new MSPAR is effective this june 2019 (it will also be posted on June). If you already sent in your application for fall/spring of this year, it will apply to the OLDER MSPAR. Anything after that, the new MSPAR will take into effect.
