MJC 2019 application period
At an information session with MJC program reps they said that there are 10 spots guaranteed to LVNs. They have to take at least 10 LVNs regardless of points is what I understood.

Straight A students..
Hi Delcon...I'm also a mom of a young baby and just finished up my nursing prereqs a couple days ago. My baby was 4 months at the beginning of spring semester. I doubled up on Micro and Physiology. I am someone who has a strong science foundation and my sister was helping me full time. Even so, it was HARD but I managed As in both classes. It would have been incredibly difficult to add in working part time as well. If you need to work I would definitely recommend just one science at a time. Even if you push your application back one year it just gives you extra time to study for your TEAS or HESI. This is usually a big part of the application that deserves a lot of your time. These classes may seem intimidating but never forget...you're a mom...you can handle anything! Best of luck to you!

MJC 2019 application period
Yes I will be applying to Columbia. I have 79 points. We have some really good students applying this cycle so I wouldn't be surprised if the cutoff ends up being higher than 71 this year.

MJC 2019 application period
For semesters 1, 3, and 4 we will do our clinicals in Sonora. For semester 2 we do our clinicals in Modesto. We had MJC program reps come and talk to us at Columbia. I don't remember the exact number, but quite a few people apply. It is just as impacted as any other RN program in California. Per year, we only have 20 spots to Modesto's 80.

Ballerinabelle I also have a Bachelor's so I can give you some advice on the 2F area. The students who already have a Bachelor's are considered to have met all minimum requirements for the associate degree from MJC. The courses listed under ADN to BSN GE certification are above and beyond those requirements because they will eventually be used for a BSN. In order to claim those 2 points on your application the supporting document requires a meeting with one of the designated allied health counselors to sign off on the form. So if you think you have all the courses listed I'd schedule a meeting with them asap.

Pre-Nursing for CA student at community college
Yes this! This is why I suggested to meet with a pre-nursing advisor who knows the ins and outs of programs in your area. There is such a push for BSN educated nurses that these programs are becoming more common. At MJC all ADN students are automatically granted admission to Stanislaus to work on their BSN during the summers. MJC graduates will finish the program with their ADN and BSN at the same time! And yes I totally get the wanting to go away for college thing. I stayed at home for my original Bachelor's degree and was able to graduate debt free. I don't regret it for a second! There are plenty of other ways to get that "dorm life" experience. Example...work in Yellowstone for the summer. You'll be in a tiny room with a random roommate, go to the bathroom down the hall, eat questionable cafeteria food, no parents, and have the time of your life in one of the most beautiful places in the world. You may make some money instead of paying tens of thousands of dollars for the "experience" at a university.

MJC 2019 application period
I'll be applying to the MJC/Columbia satellite program with 79 points. Per our pre-nursing counselor, the cutoff was 71 last year. We have some quality people finishing their prereqs this semester at Columbia. I'm looking forward to the next two years!

Pre-Nursing for CA student at community college
Have you met with a pre-nursing counselor at your school? All the points admissions schemes at the schools in CA are so similar yet different, its best to talk to someone who is familiar with the programs in your area. Luckily, you have what is generally a huge piece of the puzzle left - your TEAS. Have you started to study for it? As pp mentioned, you should expand your prospective programs to include ADN. I'm applying to MJC next month. Just glancing at your stats, you'd probably be a good candidate for MJC if you had a strong TEAS score. MJC also gives you 3 points if you have your CNA license, whether you work or not. Maybe a school in your area has something similar?

Congratulations Futurenurse2017 on completing all your prereqs!!! I hope your TEAS exam went well. I am aiming to apply next cycle (Fall 2019/Spring 2020). How many points did you end up applying with? Anyone else getting ready to apply? Good luck to all applicants!
