Can a nursing program not allow you to graduate for a post on FB that doesn't violate any school, board or HIPPA policies? I passed all my courses. Graduation is next week and they are letting people who failed exits graduate!
Anyway, I said I thought a tech was a *****. I deleted it. But someone on my friends list that goes to my school printed it out and gave it to my director. (Why would someone do that). So now the program is threatening to take my graduation away after I passed everything with really good grades. The dean doesn't seem to be helpful either.
I was told by my clinical instructors if you do not want it to be seen by everyone, do not post it on facebook. We are not allowed to post where we go to clinical, things about the school, or whom is a nursing student at the school. All of that information is easy access and we have been told that are professors do look at our profile every now and then to see what we are posting. I have seen people kicked out of the nursing program 2 wks before graduation. I would definately talk to the board about your situation, but remember they do not take stuff lightly.

The OP already posted that she was informed by school admin that she is eligible to graduate/participate in graduation and realized the potential gravity of the scenario.
Yikes...must have really struck a nerve. From what I understand it happens regularly--people turning others in based on FB comments, that is. We had a representative of our hospital talk to us about the social media policy. Per her, the hospital does not go to FB looking for people bad talking the hospital...most violations of the policy are when people are turned in by their FB "friends." While you may think these snitches are among the worst of people, it happens. If someone wants to badmouth the hospital, whatever, that is going to be their problem...when people are making disparaging comments about the staff on my unit, in a public forum, then I have an issue.
Oh, I completely agree with you. I just can't fathom the type of person who would go through the trouble of doing all of that to get someone into trouble. It's just so weird to me that someone would be that motivated to throw someone else under the bus.
However, it's a great lesson. Be as anonymous as possible online, keep all social media private, and mostly, don't bash your employer in any shape or form online.
I don't "Face book", I don't feel the need....so I don't know, but how do the prof. check out your "profile"?

What if the other student's motivation wasn't to just throw someone under the bus? What if the other student was deeply offended by the vulgar language and unprofessionalism of the OP? What if they just wanted someone to make her delete the post and didn't know it would go that far? What if in addition to the post there was tension on site during their clinicals that made people uncomfortable? What if the OP didn't realize that the person she posted nasty things about is actually friends with or related to one of her classmates?
We don't know the whole story so we don't know the actual reasoning behind it all. It's a small world and you never know who has mutual friends/ family members on fb. You don't get it until you or someone you know experiences the horror of being called out on talking trash about someone publicly and having it damage your reputation and/or ruin a career.
On the flip side, what if you caught one of your fb friends talking trash about your family members or a co-worker you cared about? Would you let it go?
Final thought. It seems like she is older than some of the other students. Age differences can cause clashes and ageism really does exist especially on college campuses. I am 10 years older than my chem lab partner. I feel like I am in the twilight zone working with some of these younger students. I take it way more seriously than they do. Sometimes they can be too sensitive so "snitching" is likely but as an older student you need to understand how they are or you will have a hard time. Now I feel really old, haha!

They can't if it's private. So i dont know how your professor could view your facebook if it is. Adjust your privacy settings and choose your friends/classmates wisely. I knew a girl who used to be on facebook in class talking trash about the teacher as she was teaching. But her page was private and she had 2-3 of us classmates as friends. We never snitched, but even so, our professor would never be able to see it. Her page was on lockdown.
thanks

OK....deep breath....IN and OUT.
I think we agree that the students represent the facility and follow the rules.....the topic of this post has been answered. The OP gets to stay in school and learned a valuable lesson.
Lets stick to topic
