Hello,
I've been searching through the message boards and I just can't find much information on people who go/have gone to the nursing program at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas. I was wondering...what was your entering GPA? What was your NET score? How did you like it? What hospitals did the school use for classes? Do you feel like you got a good education there?
Thanks so much!
Sarah
ohh okay i get it now. but im not understanding why would they add points for courses that havent been taken? what if you have 6 courses in progress thats 6 points to your score, couldnt that put you ahead of somebody who has completed everything. but to the readers my mistake you DO NOT add the courses you have already taken. thank you for this clarification.
I added lots of bolding. Hopefully it'll make things clearer

Total 42 points
The above is the core/prereq course list. According to the ranking thingie, you get 2 points for each one of those that you take and get a C or above (excluding PE). So the absolute maximum you could make there is 42 points. They say that on their website "(max. 42 points)". You said you haven't taken Economics, Computer, and 2 PE courses, so of the 42 possible, you lose 2 for not taking Economics, and you lose 2 for not taking computer, and PE doesn't matter
42 - 2 (economics) - 2 (computer) - 0 (PE) = 38 points
The second section on the ranking thingie says you get 1 point for each of the Prerequisites that you score a B or above on. There are 10 prereqs, and you said you got all 10 points of that, so 10 points
The next section is "BSN core and/or prerequisite courses currently in progress." You stated that you have taken everything except for economics, computer and 2 PE courses. I actually made a mistake on this section in my original post.
So, these 4 classes represent the last courses you will need to graduate, but since they are core classes, and NOT pre-reqs you don't need to complete them to get into nursing school. You will have to take them before graduating. So the way this is calculated is,
if you plan on taking these courses BEFORE getting accepted to nursing school, then they will give you 1 point for each one you plan to take before going to nursing school. So like if you were entering in Spring 2010, and you took those 4 classes in the Fall 2009, you would get 4 points (1 for each class). Alternatively, you could take none of these courses and get 0 points. You'll just have to take them while in nursing school if this were the case.
Next, you get 1 point for each .10 points that your cumulative GPA is above 2.5. You had the right idea with the 2.5, 2.6, 2.7, etc counting system, except that you started with 2.5.
The number 2.5 is not over 2.5 so you shouldn't count it. You should've started with 2.6, 2.7, 2.8, 2.9, 3.0, 3.1, 3.2, 3.3. You are 0.8 GPA points above 2.5. 2.5 + 0.8 = 3.3. The 0.8 will give you 8 points of credit.
Same thing with the Prereq gpa section. That one gives you 9 points of credit.
And you got 2 points for your NET test result.
So we add up the numbers -
38
10
0 - 4 (depending on how many and or if any of the remaining core classes you are gonna take or are currently taking between now and starting nursing school)
8
9
2
_______________
67 - 71

It depends on how they score it. Remember that if you already took it with a C or higher, you get 2 points. Just planning to take the course will only net you 1 point. That will put you above someone who is not planning on taking it though.
ive already been accepted to the nursing program, so you didnt have to go that depth into it =) B U T thank you SOOO much because i probably have confused a lot of people hahaha. But i do want to add if you have your associates and are core complete you DO NOT have to take PE or economics because you have already completed the TEXAS mandated core curriculum at another school so MSU will take that into consideration. PE, and economics are MSU's core.
hey cyclical can you do my friends points haha, because you're so good. i already told her one, but i messed it up becuase i added like i did mine before. she is applying for spring 2010. she has a 3.8 prereq gpa, and 3.9 BSN core. she has taken everything except College math, economics and PE. she gets the 2 points for NET. so I came up with this. 38, 10, 1 for the college math in progress, 13 for over 2.5, then 14 over 2.5, then 2, for the NET? is that right??? So that makes it

[Edit] Actually, she gets 38 for the first category, and 9 points for the prereq category since she hasn't taken college math which is a prereq.
38, 9, 1, 13, 14, 2 =
77 points
For some reason I had to re add those numbers like 10 times to come up with 77, lol. Basic math is definitely not my strong point.
