Midwestern State University

Published

Hello,

I've been searching through the message boards and I just can't find much information on people who go/have gone to the nursing program at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas. I was wondering...what was your entering GPA? What was your NET score? How did you like it? What hospitals did the school use for classes? Do you feel like you got a good education there?

Thanks so much!

Sarah

I know the feeling! I am applying to a nursing program close to home and if I don't get in, I will definitely be applying to Midwestern. Thanks for the info!

Im doing both, TCC and Midwestern, but my number 1 is Midwestern

the application process for this school really confuses me. i did my applytexas app, but for some reason i didn't notice this on their website -

spring admission application dates: september 1st through september 30th

deadline: 5:00 pm on final day

applications received before or after this time period will not be considered

does that mean i have to resend my application? or does that only apply to the supplemental application?

then there's this from that wtnec site -

all wtnec designations admitting for the spring semester will begin accepting applications 08/07/2009. at this time you will be able to create a new application or add designations to your existing account.

i'm assuming it's a grammar issue, but the way it's phrased i figured i could make an account. i guess that's not the case.

i also already sent my transcripts to msu. i hope they won't require me to send them again.

The September date is the app period for the Nursing program. When you apply at applytexas.com then your applying to the university. The app for the school of nursing is on the WTNEC website. That 8/7/09 date is when you can add things onto your app or start your application. if you have applied on applytexas.com for midwestern and sent your transcripts out then you should know shortly if your accepted( thats what Im waiting on). I started my app on the WTNEC website in like April or May, I was pretty much finished with it except for some classes I had in progress and my summer courses. The WTNEC website wouldnt let anybody in to add anything on after June 17th I think. I called the nursing school and they told me that it wont let you back in to complete my app until Aug or September( which is the app period for the nursing school). i know it is a bit confusing, but I just kept calling MWSU until everything was clear to me...I wouldnt be surprised if she knew my number by heart now LOL

Thanks, that cleared up quite a bit for me.

No problem, ive been there and i didnt like it...kind of made me mad, because alot of it isnt clear. But Prettyladie i sactually attending MWSU in the fall for nursing...she can tell you WAY more then I can

Specializes in Emergency.

hey guys. for those of you who are applying still i calculated my points on the point system and i can tell you all of my stats so maybe yall can see where you are.

i had 92 points when i applied. and i will break it down.

i had a 3.41 on nursing prerequisites.

i had a 3.33 on the prerequisites and the core.

i received the full 42 points for the

bsn core & prerequisite courses with a grade of “c” or above." section

i received the full 10 points for the 1 pt – per course with grade of “b” or above (max. 10 points) a&p i, a&p ii, microbiology, chem., math, engl i, engl ii, gen. psyc, intro to socl, devel psyc..

i received 19 points for the bsn core and/or prerequisite courses currently in progress.

i think that is a typo because surely they will give points for people who have already completed them as well as those who are taking them.

i took everything except economics, the p.e. and the computer requirement.

okay, so now its the cumulative gpa and core. you receive 1 point for every .10 you are over 2.50

so i had a 3.33, so that would come out to 9 points. so that 2.5, 2.6, 2.7, 2.8, 2.9, 3.0, 3.1, 3.2, 3.3. i did that incase any of you were getting confused on how i came up with the 9 points.

you also receive 1 point for every .10 you are over 2.50 for the nursing prerequisites. i had a 3.41, so that comes to 10 points. same formula as above.

i received 2 points for being “post high school” on my reading portion of the net. this is the reading level that you read at. its either below high school, high school, or post high school.

so if you add all them up

42

10

19

9

10

2

that comes out to 92 points.

those of you who are wondering.

i had a 76 on the net reading portion

and 79 on the net math portion.

pm me with anymore questions

just a heads up, they changed the application date -

spring admission application dates: august 7th through september 30th

Specializes in Emergency.

yes. it has changed. and here is something i did. instead of waiting on WTNEC to send my transcripts to the nursing dept, i also printed unofficial transcripts and sent them to ********* **** along with my NET so she had those already and in my mind it made the process quicker and easier. because it takes WTNEC like a week and a half to send them to MSU

I'm still waiting for acceptance to MSU as well as access to WTNEC. Did you get access to make an account on WTNEC after you were accepted Prettyladie?

Specializes in Emergency.

i created a WTNEC account before i applied to the university if that is what you are asking. i didnt apply to the university until i knew i was accepted into the program.

you're math was a bit off so i fixed your calculations :wink2:

total 42 points

if you were to have taken every single one of those you would make 42 points, but you stated that you havent taken economics, pe, and the computer course. so the max you could make here is actually 38.

i received the full 10 points for the 1 pt – per course with grade of “b” or above (max. 10 points) a&p i, a&p ii, microbiology, chem., math, engl i, engl ii, gen. psyc, intro to socl, devel psyc..

you misunderstood this category. this category gives you 1 point for each core/prereq course that you are currently taking or plan to take before being accepted into the nursing program. (basically anything that hasn't gotten a letter grade yet.)

since you have taken all of your prereqs, and the core isn't necessary for admission, and since i don't know if you're taking courses or not right now, this could be between 0 and 2 points added depending on if you plan on taking economics and computer before enrolling.

okay, so now its the cumulative gpa and core. you receive 1 point for every .10 you are over 2.50

so i had a 3.33, so that would come out to 9 points. so that 2.5, 2.6, 2.7, 2.8, 2.9, 3.0, 3.1, 3.2, 3.3. i did that incase any of you were getting confused on how i came up with the 9 points.

3.33-2.5 = 0.8, so you get 8 points.

you also receive 1 point for every .10 you are over 2.50 for the nursing prerequisites. i had a 3.41, so that comes to 10 points. same formula as above.

3.41 - 2.5 = 0.91, so you get 9 points.

i received 2 points for being “post high school” on my reading portion of the net. this is the reading level that you read at. its either below high school, high school, or post high school.

so your totals are -

38

10

0-2

8

9

2

which is between 67 and 69 points.
