Microbiology: Spring 2010

Hello. Anyone out there taking Micro this semester? I thought I would start a thread for us to talk and discuss microbiology for the semester. I am looking forward to it.

What textbook are you going to be using? I am using Microbiology: With Diseases by Taxonomy - Robert Bauman. I am picking it up tomorrow.

Hey guys! I start on the 20th. We're using Microbiology: An Introduction by Tortora. Thanks for all the websites posted, I'm sure I'll frequent them often. I had bio last semester and I feel as though I learned more on my own by going to different websites. I'll probably do the same thing this semester. Thankfully I'm only taking micro and my second English class. I am def. looking forward to the labs! :up:

Hey Everyone! I start my mircobio class Thursday also, my first semester back in years! I did one on-line class a few semesters back with no luck, so I'm doing it on campus this time. I am only taking mirco and an algebra class, so hopefully it won't be too bad. I am married and have 5 children, so study time is limited, I will be pulling a lot of sleepless nights I'm sure. well classes just began so I only attended one lab. I'll keep u posted!! All I know is that its strict because u work with specimens that can cause u to be sick. My professor packed us with homework that is due friday. My lecture professor is HORRIBLE she just reads the powerpoint to us instead of teaching :sniff: I guess I have to pray and study hard on this one lol

I agree; that isn't even teaching. Anyone can read a powerpoint. Hang in there. You will make it through. :clown:

Great thread ! I'm also starting micro next week. Did anyone start yet ? How's it going ? I'm alittle worried because they changed my professor now I don't know what to expect from this new professor. This just sucks I guess I will have to make the most of it. It's to late to change. Keep in touch everyone how's it going and we can put our brains together to do well !

I started Micro this week! I really like my teacher! My book is microbiology and introduction by tortora, funke and case. I can't wait to really start learning this stuff!

I just started A&P today and there was virtually no lecture. It was all read right off the powerpoint with little to no elaboration. I read the reviews for this teacher and its exactly like people said. 2 chapters per week, + lab. Thats like doing 3 chapters per week! The professor went on about how people leave the class and dont know the material.

I am also taking micro. the book we are using is Foundations in Microbiology by Kathleen Park Talaro I am so nervous because I studied very hard in A&P and could not get an A. Joining this thread hopefully will help a lot.We can do it!

That is an excellent textbook! Thats the one my class used and I got an A. I hope your teacher is good/nice and I hope you get an A. Feel free anyone to PM me with any questions and I'll try to help. Good luck all! :)

I am in the same boat! I studied really hard in both A&P classes and could only get a B. We should keep up on this thread and encourage each other through the semester. I have the book by Tortura.

The labs should be really cool!

This morning my professor uploaded all course materials to the website. Including all powerpoint lectures, exam reviews, handouts, lab exercises, syllabus etc. That is so cool. She even uploaded her lecture and lab calendar that includes topics with page numbers.

:yeah: I can't wait to start on Monday.
