Microbiology - Fall 2005

Published

Just bought my micro book today, so thought we needed to have a thread.

Classes start August 22. When do yours start?

What text are you using? We're using Tortora.

And are you taking lab too? Our lab is worth 2 credits, and I've heard with the amount of work you need to do, it should be more.

Specializes in Pediatric ICU.

I took Micro last semester and we used Tortora (sp?) textbooks. I fortunately borrowed mine from a friend.

Hint: look up your bacteria on Google images. It helped a lot because the pictures in the book aren't always the best.

Here's some helpful websites:

Good luck everyone. Study hard. You can do it!

Today was my first day...we haven't discussed anything yet...it was more of a go over the syllabus - etc etc type day. However, I can tell it's going to take a whole lot of work!

Here is one more:

I am hitting myself over the head repeatedly.:lol_hitti I accidently used methanol instead of water when wetting the swabs. We were sampling parts of our work tables. Oops. We'll see if anything grows on those plates. I guess now I know better.

Here is the website of my teacher. When I google a lot of thing I found I pulled him up first...he mentioned something about that too LOL!

Thanks for these sites. I'm having trouble seeing anything under the microscope. I hope it gets easier over time!

Lab today was fun...but geeee-yad was lecture boring. I hope it gets a lot more interesting:) Our first quiz is next Thurs.

2nd day of class and it was all chem review..yuck!!!!

We don't start classes until 9/7 (a Wed), but my first class isn't until 9/8. I've been reading the book though and taking notes. I'm *hoping* this helps somewhat, and that we actually DO use the book (didn't even CRACK my A&P2 book - a waste of $167! Every lecture was a PPT presentation.) and that we go in order of the chapters. I hate it when they skip all over the place.

I also wish the syllabus was available. I hate getting it the day of class, instead of before.

Dont you just hate ppt presentations, I feel I don't pick up information as well as compared to taking lecture notes

it is really helpfull for lab stuff- when the teacher explains what to do and your still going huh????

I have the same problem with the microscope yesterday. Turned out I just hadn't turned the fine knob far enough. A couple more twists, and tada, it was clear. Luckily our lab instructor is very nice, and doesn't seem to mind the mistakes we are all making.

Whats everyone doing to memorize their microbiology history (first chapter)???

Having to remember all the first men and what they did...

We skipped all that. Good luck though!
