Microbiology - Fall 2005

Published

Just bought my micro book today, so thought we needed to have a thread.

Classes start August 22. When do yours start?

What text are you using? We're using Tortora.

And are you taking lab too? Our lab is worth 2 credits, and I've heard with the amount of work you need to do, it should be more.

Well...finally! I checked for my grade just now, figuring it would be way to early (8am), but there it was!! I only missed 3 questions on the final!! 144/150 Don't know how I pulled that off! I didn't study until the day of the final and it was cumulative.:uhoh3:

So, I ended up with a 97%! I was down 20pts in lecture and 3 pts in lab from a perfect score!

I am so thrilled to have it done and I will forever relish this A. For now it is on to Nursing School and I need to pysch myself out for B's and C's. I have gotten nothing but A's in all my classes so this new grading system will freak me out. I know it isn't about the grade (unless it's a C-!!), but dang, it's gonna bite to not get those A's anymore. Believe me, I will still try, but I'm trying to reprogram my brain into not worrying about getting the A's.

Bring it on!!!!!!!!

Lisa

Congrats Woogy! Same here, I am prepared for anything in nursing school, it will be tough I know. I am taking it with Micro (I am braving it) so I will be extra busy.

Best wishes to you.

We finally got our grades posted on Blackboard.

Big WOOHOOO! I passed Micro! I can now officially throw out all of my notes and papers and lab book and delete all the bookmarks from my Favorites.

I don't know what my final scores were, since she rearranges Blackboard to percentages instead of grade scores, but I needed an 80% or better to pass, and I got an 86.5%. Not great, but after that class, I'll take it!

How are y'all liking MicroSUX!? lol

I'm so glad mine is over. I'm not sure how it would have gone if I had taken it during a regular semester, but it was hectic taking MicroSUX! in an 8-week course!

Good luck!

Did you take Micro as a bi-term or was it in the summer? I was wondering because I'm taking it in the summer and was hoping it wasn't too terrible being that it's a shorter time frame. Just curious how you liked the 8 week course and how difficult it was for you.

Oh how NICE it is to have free time:)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I finally got my report card and got the A I knew I had...but it's so nice to see it on paper!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was so glad to get my final grades in the mail last week - a B+. I don't even care now that it wasn't an A. My lowest grade EVER in fact!

I know a friend of mine with ONE semester left in the ADN program (we get our ADN after 2 years, even if we're in the BSN program), failed by 3 points. She's going to fight her grade, but as of right now, she is out of Med/Surg II. She can't continue until she has an 80 in Micro, even though she could take it consecutively with Med/Surg II this spring. Rules state that it has to be taken BEFORE Med/Surg II is taken. It would put her a whole year behind, as M/S II is only offered 1x per year.

It sucks, but I worked hard for my grade, and she's saying that some of the "older" ladies (meaning me, as she is 17 years my junior) were "known" to have gotten special "considerations" with their grades because they have families and jobs, whereas the "younger" ones don't, since they live in dorms and don't have all the pressures of life that the older ones have.

I think NOT! My friend got the opportunity to re-write her paper, and pull her grade up from a 90 on it. She TOLD the prof that she used the same references as I did, and she was po'd that I got 100. Well, I worked over 20 hours on that paper, and I'm a damn good writer. It's always been my strong point, and I make no apologies for that. All other papers were based on the best papers in the class, which was mine and two others. She was mad that her "new" grade was a 92. What did she expect? 100%? I don't think any prof would give anyone 100 on a paper they had to rewrite. I wrote mine the correct way the first time. She's lucky she got another chance at all.

Sorry about the rant. I'm just po'd that my friend is taking out on me her failures, and being mad that I passed "because I have kids and am going through a divorce, etc". Um, I think it's because I studied my behind off!

I passed the class with a B, whoa I really surprised myself but I really enjoyed that class.
