Microbiology - Fall 2005

Published

Just bought my micro book today, so thought we needed to have a thread.

Classes start August 22. When do yours start?

What text are you using? We're using Tortora.

And are you taking lab too? Our lab is worth 2 credits, and I've heard with the amount of work you need to do, it should be more.

Malia

Hi Malia! My semester starts on 08/22 as well. I tried to take it over the summer (8 week session) and dropped after the 1st class. Too much to learn in such a short period of time! Not sure on the book yet - Financial aid is behind in processing student loans and I just haven't had the $$ on my own to go buy it yet. Also, taking the class on-line from a different campus than my own. In the fall my campus only offered it at night - which doesn't work for me.

Looking forward to a good semester. I am also taking Advanced Physiology and 2nd level Psych - Lifespan Development.

Where do you go to school? I go to a community college in Bloomington-IN. Look forward to getting to know you through out the semester!

I start 8/30.

We aren't using a book. My professor has his own supplements that he wrote himself ( kinda equals a book but is only $30!)

Count me in :)

I start August 22nd through December 10th I think.

Good luck everyone :)

17 credits this fall semester for me to include Micro and A & P 1. Using Microbiology : A systems apporach 4th ed. by Cowan and Talaro.

Hey guys, Micro was my last required science last summer. I finished out with a "B". We used tortora as well. Our lab was only 1 credit and it was more hands on than A&P. I hope everyone has great instructors who can teach this dismal science.

stdy2banurse - i'm in honolulu, hawaii. i actually was at iu in bloomington for one semester, but got too homesick and went back home.

boonersmom - i'm totally jealous that you have no textbook. talk about saving a lot of money. though i have to say one of the most expensive classes i ever took didn't have a textbook and cost over $100 for the copied articles. ugh, it was the copyright that costs so much.

fla orange - i hope you'll drop in to give us tips. i actually changed my lab becuase i'd heard bad things about the instructor.

I'm taking micro and physiology (again, 1st time I took it I got an A but didn't learn ANYTHING, the instructor just said memorize this and you'll get an A...) this semester. Our micro book is Tortoro also, but I haven't purchased it yet...maybe today if I can get away from work :( I'm in West Plains, Mo, where is everyone else located at? Our lab is only worth 1 hr too....

Hi everyone,

Well my mom blessed me and offered to buy my book - at least until the people in the financial aid office get off their tails and get my loan processed ;) So we ordered it yesterday and it should be here by Friday. We are using a book by Wiley (?).

I attend school in Bloomington, IN - live just north in a small surrounding town.

MO is not that far away. It is nice to have other people to go through this misery with!!

Every one stay in touch :)

I'm in for this Fall too. I'm taking both lecture and lab online (plus ethics). Classes begin 8/28. I haven't looked yet to see what text we're using. I've been too busy getting the kids ready for school, which started today! Between getting my first one on the bus at 5:52am, the second one at 7:02am and the third at 8:42am, it's a THREE HOUR daily routine! UGH!!! :uhoh3:

So sorry!! Wow, that really stinks. My 2 get on @ 8:40...a couple more years before I have to think about the one getting on at 7 am. Good Luck!!

Hey everyone - well another couple of weeks for me and it is going to go by fast! I got my book on Thursday. I couldn't believe it - it only took 2 days! Anyway, it is "Microbiology - principles and explorations" by Jacquelyn Black. Doesn't sound like the same one that most are using.

Anyway - our thread was getting buried and I thought it should be brought back to the top in case others are just now checking it out..
