Microbiology - Fall 2005

Published

Just bought my micro book today, so thought we needed to have a thread.

Classes start August 22. When do yours start?

What text are you using? We're using Tortora.

And are you taking lab too? Our lab is worth 2 credits, and I've heard with the amount of work you need to do, it should be more.

Yay lab test is over. I got 54/55 - an A!

The one I got wrong- the whole class did...it was about furnucles/carbuncles and which is found in subcutaneous tissue...well they are BOTH in subcutaneous tissue- but he said it's furnucle...and even in his notes it says both! Oh well...1 point..not a biggie

How's it goin girls and boys?

I'm stressed- 3 weeks left and wayyyyy too many tests to get through. I really wish this class had been paced better. I mean we didn't have a single lecture test for a month 1/2 in and now it's all being slammed down our throats.

Good luck everyone!

We have today's lab, plus 2 more. Two 10pt quizzes and a 50pt final.

We have today's lecture plus 4 more classes. One more 100pt test, 150pt final and 2 more quizzes online (10pts). So far holding onto a 97%!!

Just got my results from mondays test (96%) and Weds lab (10pts). I'm a little worried about the final. I can sum that up in one word...

cummulative

Good luck to everyone!

We're almost done!

I'm actually going to miss it though.

:uhoh21: Can anyone say "unknowns"? Well, right now, we are working on identifying unknown bacteria, and it is torture. I don't have time for anything except for working on unknowns, and when I am not working on them, I am thinking about them or dreaming about them. Yuck! I just thought I would share my frustrations!

We started our unknowns this week too. I'm happy becuase I've already narrowed my gram + to two potential species. And I was so worried about whether I would get colonies from my streaking. It did turn out that the G+ colony was two small to do a catalase test on the TSA plate, but I had it on another plate to use. I'm doing a test to see if they ferment lactose for my final test. We will see about G- next week.

What I'm now nervous about is a lecture test tommorow. Ugh. It's viruses and immunology. I hate complement. I was sick the day of that lecture with a stomach virus/food poisoning, so I'm studying that part like crazy.

Good luck to everyone on their upcoming quizes, labs and tests.

I know your test is today, but I will happily email you my notes from viruses, complement/not much on immu though. I record the lecture then type it out.

Lucky me...no unknowns for my Micro class. :bowingpur

I thought the unknown project was the best part of the class!

Anyway, I wish you all the best of luck and prayers in your last days of MicroSUX! :chuckle

Thanks for the offer Woogy, but my test is less than three hours away. I think it's a little late for me.:chuckle Luckily I think I have it down enough for this test. Just don't feel as confident as I did before my last two tests. Oh well. Malia

Hey no problem!

Good Luck to you!!!

Wow today's lecture exam was brutal. Luckily I got some pretty easy essay questions...the hardest was the life cycle of HIV ( which I KNEW I'd get) and then some easy stuff on macrophages, B/T lymphocytes, and Prions. The test part however, yikes, I am hoping I did a lot of correct guessing lol.

So I don't know my results yet, but I think I did well on my test. All that studying paid off. Unfortunately I'm pretty sure I got one answer wrong. Of course it was on complement. I was also reminded why I don't sit in the back. My instructor made the front and last rows switch. Ugh, bad seat and if it had been a lecture, I'm sure I would have had trouble seeing everything on the board.:rotfl:

Good Job!!! My guess on the seat switching is that there must be a few that are possibly cheating. It would make no sense otherwise. I would email the instructor and make sure you can still sit up front, since that is where you do your best work (attention, distractions, eyesight). It would totally mess me up if my instructor did this, and then said it was permanent.
