Hi ya'll! Anybody taking Micro this coming fall semester and want to form a study group? I did this for A&P I and II and it helped tremendously! I'm taking it along with Chem 1151 (Survey of Chem). Thanks!
I GOT IN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :monkeydance:I got my letter last night and I am accepted into the nursing program as long as I finish Micro & Chem with a C or better and keep at least a 2.5 GPA. I am so happy!!!!I can't believe I finally made it! I start in January.
I'm so happy for you Katie! I know that you'll do a fantastic job!
I've been reading about nerves, shaking during clinicals, and lots of advice to help.....the caffeine was a constant suggestion. I will say it has about killed me doing it!!
I have heard that about caffeine a lot. I have terrible migraines so I've been pondering whether that would help me out any. It will be super tough to give up caffeine though! I am a coffee and coca cola fanatic!

I have migraines too! If you don't use caffeine, it is actually a very good pain killer for migraines! I'm a "high strung" person as it is :monkeydance: so doing without the caffeine won't hurt me. I guess I'm a bit...uhhh...ADHD truth be told...but I adapt. Well I'm off to my Micro test....yikkess. :icon_roll
Good luck!!! You'll do great!!! I have micro test today too...it's supposedly our "easy" one (immune system-type stuff, some epidemiology). I'm going to try and make it without my Mountain Dew. I didn't know caffeine was actually a painkiller. I knew it did something by way of vasoconstriction (...or maybe vasodialation?...) but I'm going to give it a shot. I'm high-strung and anxious too, so it can't hurt at the very least. And maybe my doctor will stop calling me a stressball.
I find Excedrin to be magical for headaches...and it's got caffeine! I'm thinking that too much coffee or tea might be a problem, especially without eating breakfast. Just limit it. In my "advanced" age I do have some suggestions about being a stress-case: get checked for anemia and get yourself into martial arts or the gym.
I went to the dr a few months back because of constant head aches. He put me on Prozac and the headaches went away like magic. I never would have thought of myself as being depressed - I'm a pretty happy person so I was leary of getting on Prozac. But stress can do funny things to the body and you dont even realize hwo stressed out youve become. After just a couple of weeks I was sleeping better, concentrating was much easier, I was retaining information like I was a new person!! Its been about 3 months or so and the headaches are slowly coming back and its getting more difficult for me to focus on some times. I'm thinking it might be time to go back for a checkup.
I'm going to try and make it without my Mountain Dew.
Don't go off caffeine suddenly. You'll feel like someone hit you in the back of the head with a baseball bat NorCal your right you can "limit" it. I'm elminating because I spent quite a bit of time with some "headache and stress" experts in Chicago and the first thing they demanded was...."the caffeine had to go!" Exedrin works great for me too....only if I'm off of caffeine completely. Exercise is an awesome suggestion too! Hey anything to "calm" the nerves.
CONGRATS on your 99%!!! :bowingpur The highest I've gotten this quarter is a 97, followed by a 96 and a 70. I have a BA in Humanities/American Studies Concentration and a multiple subject teaching credential -- and Microbiology is by far the most difficult pain in the rear class I've EVER had. All of you should be so darned proud of yourselves for succeeding the way you do. This class is like a rite of passage in many ways.

:tbsk:
Yeah, I think I'm going to try and wean myself off slowly. Maybe one cup of coffee in the a.m. instead of 4. Stress & depression is definitely the cause of them in a lot of instances...I'm hoping that since I got accepted mine will start to go away! My dr. put me on midrin, inderal (anti-anxiety/beta-blocker) and something for the breakthrough headaches. I am hoping once I get them under control I can come off some of the medication too.

For future tests I would definitely use note cards. Write the questions on it with the answers on back. Memorize, memorize, memorize.
