I start Fresenius training on Monday and am so excited about it! I knew before I left school that I wanted to work for them and can't believe it's happening!

Home Health vs Dyalisis
There should be a Fresenius or DaVita in your area, I know they are everywhere in Texas. I am a new graduate and wanted in dialysis so I applied to every dialysis center within a 40 mile radius from my home to no avail. They want someone with experience most of the time because of the lengthy time it takes to train a new nurse. You should have no problem since you have been a nurse for a while. Good luck. Oh, a children's home health agency hired me and I start work next week; I also like the idea of long-term patient care.

Dialysis for New Grad
I am a new grad also and envy you the position you were offered because the hours and field (dialysis) are exactly what I want. My job search will mainly be focused on dialysis centers for a particular company. I kow this isn't a reply you were looking for but I had to chime in when I saw your post because I'm jealous! Good luck with whatever you decide.

French culture questions
I am working on a culture assessment paper and would appreciate it if someone could answer some questions for me regarding the French culture. I don't mean to offend anyone but I really don't have a clue if the culture is much different from the American culture. 1) Are there any special rites or blessings for those with a serious or terminal illness? 2) What are the attitudes, values, beliefs about specific life events such as marriage, birth, aging and death? 3) Afterlife beliefs, burial and funeral preferences? 4) What are the expected roles of family members (father, mother, grandparents)? 5) Is there a religious healing system predominately practiced? 6) How do you define health and maintain health? 7) How do you define illness and what do you feel is the root cause of illness and disease? 8) How are you expected to act when your ill (bed ridden, stoic, etc.)? 9) Who makes the health related decisions in the family? Thank you to anyone that can help me with any of these questions.

First day of nursing School *unleashed* post yours
Any new nursing students out there starting their first day? Doesn't even have to be the first day actually. Would love to hear about it.

Hateful Coworkers
"they have a temper tantrum roll their eyes slam down charts" I understand that one needs to be taught how to do certain things that they have not done before and that is to be expected. Shame on them for treating you so disrespectful. I would try to get it straightened out and would have to say something to whomever is doing this. Ask them if you could speak in private and ask the person questions. "Have I done something wrong? If I have could you please tell me so I will not repeat it in the future." or "Is there anything I need to change so we will have good working relationship?" They may respect the fact that you care and want to be as helpful as possible. I'm just not the type person to let something as mean spirited as that go.

What the heck do these people think?
I am not in nursing school yet but have completed my ADN prerequisites and have found, while taking the prereqs, that I do have to devote a lot of time studying to be able to do well on tests. It is different for everyone. Many people I know have no problem retaining everything they read and do not have to study much. I was not blessed with the photographic memory or whatever it is that allows them to do so well with minimal studying. I'm expecting nursing school to be hard but maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised. I do know that I will get through it because I plan on studying being my full-time job.

Am I too old to just be starting?
I will be 51 when I graduate nursing school and that is if I get in this Fall, which I am expected to. Plus, I was not the olderst person in my pre-req. classes that was planning on going into nursing. I still have many good years left and I have always wanted to be a nurse.

Any Guys Attending Trinity Valley In Kaufman?
The counselor told me that usually everyone with 10 pts. and up are chosen for the program. and sometimes they get to the top third of those with 9 points depending on how many openings they have left. He also said that those that are registered for the Spring semester will show up at the top of the list so it is good to be taking classes during the selection time. I applied for the 2009 Fall nursing program with 10 pts. so hopefully I will be selected. I can't stand the waiting!
