  1. I work in a small clinic with 12 chairs, MWF 2 or 3 shifts depending on census. Averaging 24-26 pts. We have 3 techs, myself and the CM. It was my understanding that when the CM left we would hire an RN and I would possibly train to be the CM. Have only been in dialysis for aprox 2 years. Well now the CM is stepping down and I have been offered the CM job only I will be BOTH the floor RN and CM! Is this even possible? Have been told that the census is too low to have both. The CM fills in for the techs frequently plus I have so many other concerns, I'm baffled they would think this is possible. I would love to hear some feedback from any other small rural clinics out there to see what the trend is. Needless to say I'm really not sure now if I can do this? Thanks
  2. I was in Med-Surg for aprox 1.5 years, respiratory therapist for 18 years, so... NOT a lot of nursing experience. Hope I made the right move. It's getting better, not so stressed out. finishing week 4. I have a LOT to learn, but look forward to being in the clinic and really getting to know my patients. I will be working in a small clinic, 12 chairs. I feel like I'm getting a really good orientation and training. Thanks for posting everyone!!
  3. Well I really appreciate everyone's comments. Some really good tips. My preceptor and clinic manager keep telling me I'm doing really good, so I will have to trust them and take one day at a time. I feel all thumbs setting up the machines still, but I'm sure it will get better.
  4. Well I'm in my second week of training and feel a little frazzled. I know I have at least 8 more weeks of training but I hope that's enough. Does anyone remember feeling that way? It seems like there is SO much to absorb. I really have been wanting this job for a long time though and don't want to fail. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
  5. I have almost one year under my belt on med-surg. I have been hoping to get a job as a dyalisis nurse in the clinic in my home town as soon as my contract is up. Any tips as to what I could be studying to prepare myself? I think I will get plenty of training but worry about being way out of my league. Thanks for any tips!
  6. I am in the same situation. Long stressful days on med-surg. Love reading these posts. Looking to switch to dyalisis next spring. Checking into homehealth also though.
  7. Thanks for the info guys. I really am still undecidEd. Don't want to jump into either one until I have done some serious soul searching. The dyalisis center said there is a job waiting for me most likely. Haven't checked into any homehealth jobs available in my area yet. I worry about being tied down to every Mond. Wed. Frid. With the dyalisis job. We shall see!! Looking forward to moving into a nursing specialty.
  8. Thanks for your input.I didn't realize u didn't get gas reimbursement!!
  9. Anyone ever done both? Hope to get out of Med-Surg nursing next year, and looking to work in my community. Have a commute to work and not happy in my present job really. Thinking about becoming a dyalisis nurse here where I live, but have decided to check out home health nursing. just trying to get a feel for which you prefered or any thoughts really. Thanks
