So I have working in an RAI clinic for a year now, I do enjoy dialysis for the most part. However, recent changes to our clinic have made me a bit uneasy. We are an RAI clinic that is being bought out by Fresinius. This has been going on since I started working here, but hopefully the end is in sight. Last week our current clinical director left to go to home hemo(I should have gone with her:) and our charge nurse(who doesn't charge, but its a title) is now filling in as Interim CD. The guy above the CD, the current CD, the former CD no one has stated anything about the changeover or Fresinius. Everything seems hush hush, which does not give me warm and fuzzies. So what I am asking is can anyone who works in Fresinius give me some insight from the nursing point of view. We run with about 95 patient census. I work 3 days + now, from 4:30 to whenever our last patient leaves. I would like to know how your clinics chain of command operates, what is your CD (RN, dietician, etc), what kind of education you have or have had (from Fresinius), etc. Any information would be helpful. Right now I work, I get paid, but there isn't anything for me learn other than hands on, which is sometimes not always the best timing on a 45 patient day. Thanks in advance!

To all my dialysis peers...I work in a rai/fresinius clinic in sc. I have worked in the clinic for 8 months. Each patient as you know has a special bath...2k2.0 or 2k2.5...which we pull from the machine. However we have over 90 patients with 30 or so being on special baths like 3k2 and 3k2,5 and 2k3. Recently my supervisor said we can no longer mix baths Bc there might be more potassium in one or calcium in the other...I'm taking about putting 2 half jugs of 3k2.0 into one for another patient. So now each day each rn is making up to 10 new baths which is quite time consuming and labor intensive. My thought is all the jugs when filled are filled to the same level with the same mix so when you combine them the concentration should be the same. However our biomes guy who knows everything brought it to my supervisors attention it's not. I'm asking how to other clinics deal with this? Does anyone know what dhec says? Or kidney councils? And information for or against this practice? I work sometimes 14 hiur days and the last thing I want to do is make 10 new baths after a long shift....thanks for any help!!!

I am an RN with a little over a year experience. I have a bachelor degree in business from a previous university and an ADN from a technical school. I was looking into programs for further education bc my job reimburses tuition upon completion. My question is the pros and cons of going into a BSN or MSN program and which may help in future endeavors of my career. Does my business bachelors help in any way? Any good programs online that anyone could recommend would be helpful as well. Thank you for any advice or insight!

So I just recently started with RAI, trainging with a PCT for now, until it's time to move on to RN duties. Last week we were told Fresinius bought RAI and have already started seeing supplies(saline, dry packs, etc) in house being used. Does anyone have any insight as to being bought by Fresinius? What types of changes could I possibly expect? It looks as though my job is safe for now, bc there isn't any Fresinius clinics in my local area, but no having worked with either before now would like to be informed. The fewer surprises the better! Thanks for any help!

Thank you for the input...it is very helpful. I have pursued everything at this point, to the point I may have advanced my carpal tunnel! I have asked to be considered for the dialysis position from my friend, and hope either it comes through or something else. What have I got to lose?!? hello all...so here is my dilemma/opportunity. i am a recent new grad. the new grad positions in my area are few and far between at local hospitals (between 1-5 offerings per week). i was offered an opportunity at a local dialysis clinic in my area. the pay is competitive to the hospital pay, 3 days a week, 12 hour shifts, etc. being that i am a new grad i am a little hesitant to jump on this position right away. i worry about getting enough experience in dialysis to move on to something else later on in my career; my ultimate goal is women's and infant services, preferably labor and delivery one day. i have almost 20 applications that are active within the hospitals, but can not seem to get an interview unless i have a direct contact within the department...the old saying not what you know but who you know! so this is where i am at. i'm ready to work, but it just wasn't where or what i was expecting to be starting with as a new grad. i would just like to hear any point of views that would assist me to make the best possible decision. thanks and i look forward to hearing opinions and experiences:)
