Hi ya'll! Anybody taking Micro this coming fall semester and want to form a study group? I did this for A&P I and II and it helped tremendously! I'm taking it along with Chem 1151 (Survey of Chem). Thanks!
Ugh we got our second test scores and I got a 56%... better than a 48% I guess. And what's funny is she still tells me to have hope to pass with a C :lol_hitti: :lol_hitti:I'm so boned.
Somebody needs a hug!!:icon_hug: Just keep trying! I was going over information before our test on Monday with my 19 yr old lab partner and I got to the test and couldn't answer the questions that I had just told her!! We are all here for each other!! :heartbeat
Just curious - does anyone else have to give a presentation over a disease? I was given Hepatitis & Schistosomiasis as my 2 dieseases and I have to prepare a 10 minute power point presentation on them. Been working on this for a few weeks now. You wouldnt think a 10 minute presentation would be such a hassel - but sheesh! I keep finding more and more info and trying to get them organized is such a pain. And wouldnt you know it - there are multiple forms of Hepatitis, so finding the required info on each - it feels like I'm working on 10 diseases instead of just 2.
Thanks - I'm done with my little vent now. :)

Yes, my partner and I have ebola. She has given a presentation over it before so she has quite a bit of info together (lucky for me.) For our teacher though it has to be REALLY well done so I have to do so more organizing and research. Fun stuff huh???
Well we started our unkowns last night. So far so good. All I got to get done was my streak plate and gram stain. I won't know how the streak plate turned out until tomorrow, but the gram stain was good. I know that my Gram Positive is staphylococcus just don't know if aureus or epid. My gram negative is a bacillus.
I was so worried but I feel pretty confident now. We have a chart to follow and it is pretty straight forward.
As for the question about doing a presentation, nope we don't have to do one. We can do a paper on a disease for extra credit (10 points added to a test) but that is it, and I will be doing that!
No presentations or reports for this professor. She even made a huge deal at the beginning about how there were no ways to get extra credit and the only break we get is in lab. In there we can drop our lowest quiz grade and double the highest one (only worth 10 points anyway).
Question - In the SIMS medium where tetrazolium salt is added when testing for motility, what is the real purpose of the salt? Is it purely to make the growth more visible? I thought she mentioned it turns red as a result of the bacteria metabolizing but she didn't expound on that any further and the lab book doesn't go into it either.
Hey everyone! I took microbiology this past summer and absolutely loved it! One of my favorite courses EVER!Anyway, I just typed up this list of microbiology websites I found helpful because I wanted to send it to a friend. And then I thought, why not post it on allnurses, too? So enjoy -- I hope you find something useful here. :)
Enjoy!
Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart! :heartbeat I'm taking Microbiology this Winter quarter so these are just the kind of sites I'll be needing!
Here are some different sites for the krebs cycle. My advice would be to look at all of them and see what you can learn from each one. Somewhere along the way, it is likely to all "come together" for you. :)Hopefully, seeing it lots of times will help it all make sense! And remember that the Krebs Cycle is sometimes called the Citric Acid Cycle!
Good luck in micro!
Wow! I owe you so much! :bowingpur I have a Bio. 101 test on Monday that going to have a lot on the Krebs Cycle! Not only have you helped me in advance for Micro. but you've perhaps saved me here in Bio. 101! Thank you!

I've been working on my Unknowns Report for about an hour now (during my lunch break). I have to say, I am please with myself. :nuke: It all seems to be coming together nicely.
How is everyone else coming along on their Unknown reports?
