Microbiology - Fall 2008

Published

Hi ya'll! Anybody taking Micro this coming fall semester and want to form a study group? I did this for A&P I and II and it helped tremendously! I'm taking it along with Chem 1151 (Survey of Chem). Thanks!

Hey there!

Thanks for the congrats...my acception is contingent upon my completion of these last 4 classes. I am taking micro, dev psych, Sociology 212 (the family) and CIS, computer info sys. I have two little kiddos so this is quite the challenge, nursing school..ugh..im afraid to think about it! my kids are 3.5 and 2..Ill be 27 in Jan too :)

Your absolutly right!!! you will be the BEST choice for schools because youll have already finished everything! Funny you say that the comm college that u go to denied you first...ME TOO!!! i go to CCP right now in PA and funny enough THEY rejected me FIRST! it really hurt too :(

I got accepted to Northeastern Hospital school of Nursing. and IM SOOOOOOO EXCITED!!

I cant wait to hear of your acception, im SURE its right around the corner...if not, spring, then MOST def for fall cause you are prime candidate!!

Do you get a departmental final in micro? we get one of them as well as a take home lab final. FUN FUN.

Rachel

Very good! Yeah I guess Community Colleges are so Competitve to get in cause they are way Cheaper. The other 2 Colleges I'm waiting for a Private and they offer BSN. I have to look at the bright side at least I get my BSN instead of a Associates within 2 years- I just had a interview with a Hospital as a OR tech and it went very well. and they will cover some of my tuition depending where I go.

I also have a Kid :nuke: she is almost 10 years old- So I do feel guilty when I can't spent too much time with her, it is hard right?

Well in my Microbiology class we have to do 2 lab test and one lab report- so far we are up to our second lab test coming soon:icon_roll and on Thursday we have our second lecture Test.

In Psychology, we have 3 Lecture test plus a research paper of 8 pagesssss; how crazy is that? It is due Dec 2nd and I haven't even started yet!!!!!!!!

I'm just so confused on the DNA thing- I'm reading and Reading it over and over ...I'm frustrated:madface:

What are you confused about in the DNA dept? maybe i can help? thatst he test i have on 11/22 dna. So, maybe we can help eachother?

I also have Nursing school orientation that day but cant go cause..well micro is just more important!1 lol, j/k, actually its not mandatory to be done on that day so ill go on another day.

IM POOPED from all the tests already, i cant wait for this semster to be OVER!!

Any news about acceptance?

No News yet love.

:nono:

Well what can you tell me me about Protein Synthesis? Translation...How would you explain it? The Codon and Anti-Codon. How can you Figure out the Amino Acid Sequence? My book Sucks! I'm stuck...maybe I'm going into the Subject too much!:banghead:I know mRNA is the Codon and tRNA is the Anti-codon. I hope I'm not confusing you:uhoh3:

Thanks Girl!

OK- so-- I will get my books and notes..and i WILL EXPLAIN it to you!!! i promise! Its pretty clear in my notes and i got a good explaination.

Need to get to the post office then ill post it up..

Specializes in none yet!.

If you are confused on DNA and protein sysnthesis, try a good search - there are loads of websites with animations, lots of information is out there, explained from the most simple to more complex.

Regarding your questions:

In DNA - triplet (three nucleotides) --> transcribed into RNA (codon) --> translated into an amino acid sequence, where 3 nucleotides = 1 amino acid.

An anticodon is present on t-RNA and is used by the ribosome (which reads the DNA and adds the appropriate amino acid to the peptide chain). It corresponds to the codon on the mRNA.

Hope that helps!

I have Staphylococcus Epidermidis and Escherichia Coli. !

You do?? You poor thing! Are you on antibiotics? :lol2: LOL just funnin' ya, of course. Congrats on figuring out your unknowns!

For the DNA question, have you gone to http://www.sparknotes.com? They have great study guides there. Helped me with the biology portion of the HESI a lot.

Specializes in ICU.

E coli was one of my unknowns too!:)

The other was Bacillus cereus.

My unknown was also E.Coli.

I havent had the time to put up some of my explanations from my notes on DNA but i better get to it, my test is on the 22nd..yikes!

ANYONE ready for this semester to be OVER???

oh im SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO ready!!!

Have a Dev Psych test tonight...SO NERVOUS!
