Good morning/night to all who are reading this,
I created this post in the hopes that all applicants applying for the nursing program at Miami dade submit their experience they have had so far and also submit any questions they might have. I'm currently applying for the accelerated option but would like to hear what others are doing in the part time and generic option. A little about me is that I have a BSN in health science (2014) and have taken all the prerequisites with the exception of A&P 2 (which I am retaking in summer b June 22).
Right now my biggest concern is the hesi a2 exam we have to take and making sure i ace it because my science gpa is not so hot right now. I have read prior posts and it seems like A&P is the most challenging section. Has anyone taken it as yet? Your advice would be greatly appreciated. Also I'm worried that after they evaluate my degree they might not take my science subjects and make me re do them ? ? . Has any one's transcript been evaluated yet?
I haven't bought my uniform yet but I noticed a difference in the uniforms the book store provides and the one the store across the street sells. On the clinical uniform, the book store uniform has a front left pocket, while Blue Angel's (store across the street) does not. I'm not sure if this would be an issue when it comes time to do our lab and clinical.

Thanks. Does color matter? What unusual colors have you seen ppl wear in your class? Thanks in advance.
Congratulations...
Glad to give u a few tips...I will be ramdom 'cause I am in a rush but here r my tips;
First semester so hard so be ready; everything is so different and lots of exams. You are gonna be so lost and nothing will make sense. Fundamentals is tricky and all about strategies but there will always be two answers that u r gonna eliminate right away the other two are the possible answers. There will be a key word that is gonna lead you to the right answer Just pay attention to the smallest detail. When you get to medsurg everything is gonna click and make sense; u r gonna start loving it. Do not think the class is crazy.Just study and try to have some fun every now and then. Dont feel discourage if u dont pass or get a C u will get used to that type of tests by the second or third exam. Its totally doable!!!
You wont be able to work more than 30 hours a week for sure, sorry. Focus on fundamentals, the other classes are not really hard. Lots of exams like I mentioned before but again, fundamentals is the challenge 'cause the HESI final exam...U need a 90 to be safe otherwise its really all about HESI (u would have to score more than 750 points if ur average is not over 90 so it all comes to HESI at the end) again FUNDAMENTALS. FUNDAMENTALS, FUNDAMENTALS. Have fun with the other classes.
Any stethoscope, any color, any brand does not matter but U DO NEED IT, U 'really don't need the uniform from the school but make sure it has the white Logo on the left top corner. U will also be using the bag for skills at some point.
Every professor is so different; they all have their own style. Skills is mostly groups of 8 students so is clinicals, but its just learning skills u will get it. Don't stress just be confident and pay attention to all details. Be aggressive in skills and clinicals that's the way to learn. Pharmacology is so easy and finishes like a month before the semester is over; it gives you time to study for the other 2 classes. Make sure you practice those math questions cause time flies when taking those tests and they will take the exam from your hands. Trust me you will learn to listen and follow instructions.
Study groups=best option. Create a study group, bond and try to have some fun every now and them..study but laugh and be positive JUST ENJOY THE RIDE. What worked for me was to get to college really early before the exams and talk about the topics or chapters, talk talk talk at some point all u gonna talk about is nursing but that's great; u will absorb the information.
U need all the books of course, some students do well with the online versions I couldn't study from them (chapters r so long) Oh! Most students couldn't read the chapters, there r so many I did read them and it helps a lot, try to read as much as U can. PowerPoints wont give all the info you need I know its a lot of reading but make some time and read maybe a chapter in 2-3 days, read and absord the info, do not pay much attention to the tables it would be too much for you. Most professors tell you just to read the powerpoints but try to do more than that cause u r going to see things that u didn't see in those powerpoints when taking the exams. U wont have time to read the chapters more than once so mark the most important information as u go and before the exams go only over that information.
White shoes for clinicals bring the stethoscope all the time for clinicals and assessment.
U can record lectures but with the reading and studying u wont have time to go over those really.
You guys will be ok; it will seem a bit intense but u will get so used to it. The second semester will be so much better.
I apologize for typing so fast its just that I am in a rush but glad to help.
Feel free to ask me any questions I honestly cant think of anything else right now but if questions Just email me and I will try to respond as soon as possible . We finished today so I have tome to respond.
Good luck
Hugs !

Before class begging go over health assessment book on Jarvis as much as you can specially the cardio section. From fundamentals it help me knowing fluid and electrolyte chapter and acid base know how to calculate abg. My midterm was all on fluid and electrolyte and abg and I was well prepare because I had already studied it.
