  1. Hi guys, Congratulations to those who got accepted ! I am about to finish (HESI Exit tomorrow) but I do feel I am prepared for this last exam. It's gonna be an intense journey; most of you are gonna hate it, sometimes the whole program wont make sense and u will get upset and disappointed but its totally worth it. By the end of the last semester, u will see how much u have learned. Your mentality and thought process will be changed. You will think you are not learning but you are. Fundamentals was the hardest class for most of us but once you hit Medsurg1 everything will start clicking and you will be able to put the pieces together. Study lots for Fundies 'cause this class is truly the glue that keeps the things together during the whole program. If you are able to understand and pass fundamentals you r gonna easily make it. Do not expect it to be like other classes or thr pre requisites; u will be shocked. The thing is that the answers are all right you will have to think critically and most of the times what you think is right is wrong. You have to be so good at strategies, do not read into the questions and don't think to much. That's the problem we always had. Now , my tips before starting: Uniform: nobody really cares as soon as its green ( or white for the rotations @hospital; make sure it has the MDC logo). Professors do not pay attention to those details; nobody really has time for that. CPR from the American Heart Association; you do the course or take the classes on your own. Just make sure its issued by then. You could do the whole physical @MDC Medical for about $250. If your HCP or Health Care Plan can do it go for it. Just make sure they sign all the paperwork before you upload these documents to Complio. You don't want those guys to email you every single day 'cause u r missing a paper or a signature. Once you start nursing school you do not have time for much else (waste of time). Try to work less than 20 hours per week; fundies is hard. Pharm and medsurg is doable working 20 hrs a week but you will be tired. If you are working more than 20 try to get a new job or talk to your boss or you wont make it. Books change every now and then... You pick the schedule after the third day of orientation; once the whole orientation is done they send you out and open the classes, I guess there r two sequences for Fall. Have the classes u want ready in a piece of paper or ready cause its a nightmare to get registered. Classes get full real quick ( most ppl wanna have their clinical experience with their friends. Meet a group of dedicated and caring students and create a study group; be serious about it. If someone is lazy dump him/her. Its nursing school and classes are hard; be smart about it. If any of you have questions about the professors feel free to email me; I can give you tips. I am not sure about the books for this coming semester but I do have mine...If anyone needs them just email me. I hope they are still the same. I believe the only book they have changed so far is Medsurg. I have the rest of them in case someone need them; Just email me and I could give to the same person who needs it---> [email protected] If anyone has any questions feel free to ask I will probably be around here sometime soon Good luck to you all ! Glad you guys made it !
  2. Does anyone need the fundamentals book? Medical campus I'll be there in Monday if u really need one ; it would be nice to help someone out Hugs
  3. Does anyone needs the fundamentals book? I have one at home; would be nice to help someone out Hugs
  4. Shoes=all white. You can get them anywhere just all white. That's all the instructors really care about .. Good luck guys and enjoy this last week cause next months will be crazy . Hugs !
  5. Do not worry about it, nobody ever notices I got mine from wallmarts LOL
  6. Congratulations... Glad to give u a few tips...I will be ramdom 'cause I am in a rush but here r my tips; First semester so hard so be ready; everything is so different and lots of exams. You are gonna be so lost and nothing will make sense. Fundamentals is tricky and all about strategies but there will always be two answers that u r gonna eliminate right away the other two are the possible answers. There will be a key word that is gonna lead you to the right answer Just pay attention to the smallest detail. When you get to medsurg everything is gonna click and make sense; u r gonna start loving it. Do not think the class is crazy.Just study and try to have some fun every now and then. Dont feel discourage if u dont pass or get a C u will get used to that type of tests by the second or third exam. Its totally doable!!! You wont be able to work more than 30 hours a week for sure, sorry. Focus on fundamentals, the other classes are not really hard. Lots of exams like I mentioned before but again, fundamentals is the challenge 'cause the HESI final exam...U need a 90 to be safe otherwise its really all about HESI (u would have to score more than 750 points if ur average is not over 90 so it all comes to HESI at the end) again FUNDAMENTALS. FUNDAMENTALS, FUNDAMENTALS. Have fun with the other classes. Any stethoscope, any color, any brand does not matter but U DO NEED IT, U 'really don't need the uniform from the school but make sure it has the white Logo on the left top corner. U will also be using the bag for skills at some point. Every professor is so different; they all have their own style. Skills is mostly groups of 8 students so is clinicals, but its just learning skills u will get it. Don't stress just be confident and pay attention to all details. Be aggressive in skills and clinicals that's the way to learn. Pharmacology is so easy and finishes like a month before the semester is over; it gives you time to study for the other 2 classes. Make sure you practice those math questions cause time flies when taking those tests and they will take the exam from your hands. Trust me you will learn to listen and follow instructions. Study groups=best option. Create a study group, bond and try to have some fun every now and them..study but laugh and be positive JUST ENJOY THE RIDE. What worked for me was to get to college really early before the exams and talk about the topics or chapters, talk talk talk at some point all u gonna talk about is nursing but that's great; u will absorb the information. U need all the books of course, some students do well with the online versions I couldn't study from them (chapters r so long) Oh! Most students couldn't read the chapters, there r so many I did read them and it helps a lot, try to read as much as U can. PowerPoints wont give all the info you need I know its a lot of reading but make some time and read maybe a chapter in 2-3 days, read and absord the info, do not pay much attention to the tables it would be too much for you. Most professors tell you just to read the powerpoints but try to do more than that cause u r going to see things that u didn't see in those powerpoints when taking the exams. U wont have time to read the chapters more than once so mark the most important information as u go and before the exams go only over that information. White shoes for clinicals bring the stethoscope all the time for clinicals and assessment. U can record lectures but with the reading and studying u wont have time to go over those really. You guys will be ok; it will seem a bit intense but u will get so used to it. The second semester will be so much better. I apologize for typing so fast its just that I am in a rush but glad to help. Feel free to ask me any questions I honestly cant think of anything else right now but if questions Just email me and I will try to respond as soon as possible . We finished today so I have tome to respond. Good luck Hugs !
  7. Forgot to mention it will be hard to do the full time generic and work more than 20 hours a week: really hard.
  8. Congratulations to those who got accepted ; I was on your on ur shoes two semesters ago. It is gonna be an interesting journey . Enjoy this summer 'cause you won't have much time after you start the program ( if u wanna pass - it's almost impossible to finish with an A and hard to get a B most people passed with Cs and they were just happy with their Cs.) Sorry to say this but be ready to read the whole book for fundamentals , that's the only challenged I had. The rest of the classes aren't hard at all. If u read the whole chapters u cover in class AND understand Not just memorize you should be ok: it's a lot of critical thinking and that's whah makes this class so hard and different. Remember read the book slowly and with an open mind. It is a lot of info to absorb but as soon as you ReALlY understand it you should be fine. Those test are so tricky .. You get to register the day of the orientation; try to get a good professor for Fundamentals the rest of the classes aren't hard and I don't think anyone would fail; it does not matter who you get for those classes you should be fine. Good luck guys!!!
  9. The med surgical book is so expensive !! That's the only book in missing --- where could I get it for a good price? Does it come with a code? If yes, do we need it ?
  10. I'm so glad this semester is finally over ! I thought it would never end with all the many things we had to do for the nursing program. Time to take a quick mental break.. Such a relief !
  11. Thank you so much !!!!!??
  12. How many books do we really need? I am only buying the five books mentioned on the yellow paper. Fundamentals, medical dosage calculations and the other 3.
  13. I got (bought) some of my books from Amazon . They were not that expensive; excellent conditions. As Maddy mentioned just have to be patient and try to find the best deals )- mine were around $25 - $50 each.
