Man o' Man....turned in my unknown...got it right but the questions related were not easy to answer. She grilled me for about 20 min on procedure and biochem tests.....didn't get the MR test right, forgot what it was supposed to do....of course now I could just kick myself for having that "senior moment"
At the end she smiled and said 'alright"....I did ok I think...good enough is all that I'm asking for. For all you who are still working on it....GOOD LUCK:balloons:

hey guys-got a 50/50 on my unknown :balloons: it was Proteus vulgaris. Anyway, gl everyone else...sure am glad that is over!!!!!!!
We received our unknowns last Thursday. After some initial instructions, the lab TA told us to "pick two plates." We did, but we were all mystified. Finally, someone asked him why two plates. He replied, "Because you have to identify both."Well, it would have been nice to have been told that BEFOREHAND!
Everyone, and I mean everyone, thought we only had to identify ONE unknown. I'm nervous because both of mine tested Gram negative. I figured we each got two plates because they wanted us to identify one of each Gram type. Guess not.
Oh well. Good luck everyone! Four weeks left for me.
We also have 2 unknowns. Our teacher gave us a flow chart and we pretty much know exactly what we need to do. Is that how other instructors are? She gets the appropriate media out, we just have to make sure we are not getting the cultures mixed up.

Oh, you are lucky!
We had to create our own flow charts and turn them in for a grade 2 weeks before we received our unknowns.
In our lab, all of the available media are out, and we have to write down exactly what we want (not only the media, but any associated reagents, etc.) and then the TA gets them for us. If we ask for, say, an MRVP broth tube to do a VP test but forget to ask for all the Barritt's reagents, it is our own tough luck.
I'm not complaining, though. I think this whole process is fun! :smackingf

I suppose we have it a little easy. We are just now getting into (during lecture) the different bacteria and how they may react to different tests and such. We are basically learning in lecture then applying it in lab. I agree though. It is fun. We have been doing staining and even skipping labs for lecture. I am glad to be doing some real labs.
