okay, people! who is with me on this one? i am feeling a little nervous about all those slides! i'm looking forward to meeting everyone in this course!

i will gather up any useful sites i find in the last med micro club and elsewhere and put them in this post!

here's a start ..

some sites from fall 05 club:

My 3rd lecture test was hard....all about diseases.....got a 95 and I am glad it's over with! I was worried about this test, some of the questions were crazy. Hope all of you are doing well also

I have my second lab test tonight, but it's going to be better than the first because we get to use our notes. I guess so many people complained to the teacher about how hard the first lab test was that now she's trying to make it easier for us. I have an 89% in the class right now, so I'm hoping that this test will boost me to a solid A.

Good luck and I am glad that your teacher is flexible

Well, I got a 91% on my third micro exam. That means my average for tests is 106% so I am happy with it. Hope everyone is doing well!

I'm kind of upset because the students complained that we are doing too many chapters, so my teacher skipped over a lot of actual interesting chapters about immunity and now we're only doing the specific immunity and then the diseases. Oh well, guess I should complain about the less work, btut I was actually looking forward to those chapters!

Goin' to the library!

This weekend I have to write my powerpoint presentation on Group A strep and I need to write my unknown lab report--I got Staph epidermidis! And I know it is correct (besides the tests I ran) because someone else in another class had the same number as me, woo.

Congratulations! You are doing wonderful! Hang in there, go with the flow....only a little bit longer Read the chapters on your own time ;)

I've finished my first week of micro:

on Tuesday

Lecture, went over the syllabus, and I think the instructor was trying to peek our interest in micro by asking the class what we can think of that microorganisms do. We also watched a video (my instructor loves videos)

Lab, went over some basic lab precautions. Watched a video that talked about Gram +/-, baccilus, coccius, and spirillum as well as capsule and spores.

Thursday:

Lecture--learned some basic definitions of words we'll be using alot as well as coving a history of micro discoveries.

Lab--had a quiz over material learned on Tues. practiced using the microscope to look at bacillus, coccius, and spirillium.

So far, it's not too bad :)

Whew! Got my micro practical out of the way yesterday, and I think it went GREAT! I know it's strange to say a test was "enjoyable," but there you have it. :lol2:

Micro lecture quiz today also went well, I think (hope). I feel like I'm gaining momentum and that things are finally starting to "click."

Which puts me in a verrrry good mood. Best wishes to all of you! And have a fantastic weekend!!

WONDERRRRRRRFUL

well hmm it's been a while .... sorry about that!! we are winding down here. my last day of med mic is on monday!!! yay! i am doing well in the course and have no worries. i think there were lots of complaints about our prof last year and he has made the course very user-friendly for all levels, which is good! it's still a hard course but he has given lots of time for review as a class and has been very fair (including giving us all 3 free bonus questions for our last exam because of typos).

our final exam is on the 13th. when is everyone else done?

oh, btw, we had our lab final this week (which was interesting to fit in studying for with our a&p lab final the same week -- yargh). i didn't get around to seeing the marks but i'm sure i did ok so i'm not going to stress.

The lab test didn't go that well. She had us all pumped up that we could use our notes. But then... for the first half of the test (the lab practical), we could not use anything. We had to identify the different tests just by looking at the test tubes. I don't know about you all, but most of them look the same to me! I mean, there are slants, broths, and deeps, but that's the only difference I see! The written part was like 75 short answer question. No multiple choice. And it was soooo difficult. I don't even want to know my score.

Your teacher should have been more upfront, sorry to hear that you had difficulty. You might have done better than you think.

Our lab test was very difficult too and we had to indentify what kind of reactions took place in those darn test tubes.

Ugh, that sounds pretty brutal. Yes, I am the same -- somehow some of it doesn't transfer as very meaningful to me. I hope you did better than you thought -- I will be thinking of you as you wait to hear!! I agree with Stpauligirl that the teacher should be been more upfront!
