okay, people! who is with me on this one? i am feeling a little nervous about all those slides! i'm looking forward to meeting everyone in this course!

i will gather up any useful sites i find in the last med micro club and elsewhere and put them in this post!

here's a start ..

some sites from fall 05 club:

I had my first lab practical last Tues and got 46/50 (92%). I was so excited since I was finding the lab more difficult then the class. We have our third lecture exam on Tues (viruses, etc.) and are starting our unknowns on Thurs. I'm actually excited.

Hang in there everyone. It's almost over.

Hey, I've been here at the library now for 3 hours working on my Group A Streptococcus powerpoint. I've never made one before, but they're pretty easy. I think I am going to stop for today and finish tomorrow. Would anyone like to see my presentation so far and give advice?? It is only halfway through. Kind of hard to figure out what info to include and what to exlude--she wants us to focus more on the actual organism and not the disease aspect--that will come last in my ppt.

Is there a way to post it on here? hmm.

Great job, keep up the good work ;)

I agree with you, the lab is more difficult than the lecture

ughhhhh...I dont know how single moms do it! I am trying to study for a big micro exam and my hubby is gone for the month of april (we are getting ready to move and he has gone ahead of me and the kids). So I ahve the kids by myself and I am trying to study for all this crap...I am losing my mind. We have two more exams after this, a lab quiz and our lab practical comprehensive final. I also have a paper to do and a million terms to define (ok, 300). I feel very overwhelmed. i tried to do a little each night after the kids went to bed, but it just doesnt seem like enough...

Any study suggestions? And no, I dont have anyone to take the kids. Long story!

I am like you, alone with my son, no family anywhere near!

Hang in there and do your best!

hang in there, it's only one lab quizz. As far as the unknkown, good luck with the test results. How long do you have to turn in your unknown....I'll turn mine in Tuesday.

I had the same trouble Thursday. We picked out our unknowns and I did 3 gram stains. Then she was rushing us and when I went to oil immersion I lost it. So I put down gram neg cocci. It looked pink over purple. She looked at the stain and put down "good" for that. The only problem is if you really have a pos or neg and pick the wrong one, you're in trouble!! I kept my slides and will go over them on Tues. We also had to isolate for colonies and will graded on that. I think I should have some colonies on Tues.

Good luck everyone!! 5 more weeks.

oh man...well we had to do everything on our own (we werent allowed to ask the instructor anything) and my tests were all very conflicting. So I reinnoculated half my tests and will read them Tues and hopefully will get somewhere with the whole process...Pray for me everyone! LOL!

We received our unknowns last Thursday. After some initial instructions, the lab TA told us to "pick two plates." We did, but we were all mystified. Finally, someone asked him why two plates. He replied, "Because you have to identify both."

Well, it would have been nice to have been told that BEFOREHAND!

Everyone, and I mean everyone, thought we only had to identify ONE unknown. I'm nervous because both of mine tested Gram negative. I figured we each got two plates because they wanted us to identify one of each Gram type. Guess not.

Oh well. Good luck everyone! Four weeks left for me.
