okay, people! who is with me on this one? i am feeling a little nervous about all those slides! i'm looking forward to meeting everyone in this course!

i will gather up any useful sites i find in the last med micro club and elsewhere and put them in this post!

here's a start ..

some sites from fall 05 club:

Thanks, Stpauli. That's what I thought. I'll do my thing and she can do whatever she wants. I just hate being in an "uncomfortable" situation" but I'm pretty good at ignoring rude, incompetent people. What can I say??

Stick to your guns...and ultimately to YOUR grade . It's not a popularity contest. I can very much relate to the 'uncomfortable situation' feeling, but that's ok. Hang in there! Be strong!

Hello Micro fam,

Update on my dilemma: So after transfering to the new instructor, I had to take her exam............got back the results I made an 88. This is very good to me because I had never sat in any of her lectures of labs and basically taught myself the first 6 chapters of the book. I also took a pop quiz last night and got a 100. I am back on track and my confidence is back to normal. I will not fail this.

As for nursing........got a 94 on last weeks pop quiz and am studying very hard for my exam on Monday, Nutrition exam Tuesday, Micro lab practical exam Tuesday night and Thursday clinical check-off. Wish me luck.

Best wishes to each and everyone of you and God bless!

Jess

I have been watching this thread and just now joined up to post. I am so happy you were able to transfer to a decent instructor. LOL! I wish I could too!!!! my professor is WOW! She is a doctor (MD) and says she is here to lift us out of our blue collar lives. I have been a straight A student since I started this journey and I just got my first D on an exam.... most of the class got C or lower. A fellow student and I talked to her about what she is expecting from us (no outline of what is going to be on the test and some things are not covered either in lecture or text). Her reply was that we should have learned these things in our undergraduate studies? Ummmm... we ARE undergraduates? I am going to bust my tail to bring up my grade, but I think this class will go down as my most hated. I am so loving A&P now

Sorry that you have a crummy teacher, I had a bad one for A&P 1 last semester. Maybe you can just drop this course and retake it with a better teacher. Glad you like A&P. Good luck

Ugh. Just got back from the first test. It was brutal!!:(:angryfire She asked so many detailed questions about things I didn't think were that important to know for this test. UGHHH. I always get A's and now I am just hoping for a B.

There were 49 multiple (98 points) one fill in the blank sort of (1 point), another short answer (2 points) and an essay (10 points). That adds up to 112 points, so at least there were 12 extra points in case I missed a lot on the multiple choice. I feel like **** right now--i just want to like die because I studied sooooo FREAKIN hard and I didn't cram, but it feels impossible to me. I need to get an A!

Anyone know what DPA is? It was a question she asked for short answer--never even heard of it or read it before in the book.

whatever.

Update on my new lab partner dilemma:

She decided to take micro T/R instead of her original W/F with the same teacher. Our teacher got mad at her today b/c she was taking cultures from her W/F class and not T/R. Maybe our teacher will make her switch back since someone overheard the teacher tell her "this is too confusing". Another girl got mad at her b/c she asked her to put away the specimens in the fridge and she didn't. And I was mad at her for taking my specimens and not even asking. The nerve. :angryfire

That's how it was in my A&P class, the teacher didnl't stick to the material and got questions from Mars......I hate it when they don't stick to the material that they lectured on or stick to the text! you probably did better than you think, so relax and enjoy your weekend coming up.

I am so lucky with my teacher, she told us exactly what wil be on our test on Tues....people who don't do well with her can't be helped...

Good luck to everyone here who is posting about bad professors and classmates. (Sorry that I'm not quoting each one!) I know how rough that can be! I hope you all can find a way to pass this class.

My first test is Tuesday, chapters 1-4. I'm feeling pretty confident so far. It's only Thurs and I've put a lot of time into it. She did give us a review sheet and she just mentioned in last today that she will definitely have the Gram Stain procedure on there. I'll keep you all posted. (I'm much better at lecture tests than lab tests!! No lab test until March.)

Sounds like your test/class is very close related to mine. We also have our first lecture test on Tues.....Gram Stain, cell wall, difference between eukaryotes and prokaryotes, diffusion, how to prepare a smear, we stopped at fungi

Good luck, we can do it!!!!!!

MOON-

I talked with you a few days ago about spjc and I'm taking micro in tarpon and had posted about my sub par performance.....NOW you know how I felt...completely hopeless. But here is the good news, we can still completely ace these classes....now you know what stuff your prof is focusing on, thank god first exams only happen once....the first time so we can get through these speed bumps.

Yes, first exams are always the WORST. I am actually taking notes of chapter 5 right now. Are you using "Microbiology" by Robert W. Bauman? That is our textbook. Bla. I hope maybe I did better than I feel, but I don't know. I don't know what else I can do to study--I make flashcards, take notes from the book, go to every class, listen intently, take notes in class, review PPT slides, answer objective questions from the cd-rom, do the cd-rom quizzes, flashcards on the site, study everyday-- EVERYTHING!!

I will keep you updated when I find out the results :chair::eek:
