I just want to clarify--I don't think this is everyone in the class who is like this (although a large majority!!). A few students even commented like, "ok, can we just move on and learn already?" So at least I am not alone in that sense.

I e-mailed the professor, this is what I wrote:

"Hello, I just wanted to write to say not everyone agrees with many of the rude comments that were made today in class. Many of us understand that it is not your fault that the computer network stuff has not been available and a lot of things are out of your hands, as you are new.

Also, for me personally, I want to thank you for even providing us with any type of notes. For some reason a lot of students think this is a requirement or something of the professor, but I have been going to *** for 3 years now (I cross enrolled at *** for Micro) and it is definitely a luxury when a professor tries to help by giving an outline.

I just want to say thank you and apologize for some of the comments--not everyone feels this way!! Please don't let any comments from students discourage you because I like the class and I am ready to learn--a lot of us are!

Thank you."

I hope she doesn't think I am sucking up or something,haha, but I know if I were a new professor and only on the third day tons of students were complaining and being rude, I would appreciate to hear something good. Also, I don't want her to start treating our class different or not teaching as good as she could because she feels discouraged that the students are just not cooperating!!

What do you guys think?

Arrghh, I need a place to vent!
I had my Micro lab and lecture today. I am cross enrolling at the local college, so I don't have to drive as far to my university. The students at this school are much different from my school. It seems, in general, they have things spoon fed to them--teachers give them notes for everything, tell them everything--they just hardly let these students grasp the concept of actual studying instead of memorizing.
Anyway, the professor this semester is new, so she has been having problems with getting powerpoint notes on the computer system to be available for students, however, she lectures and if you READ YOUR BOOK, then it will make sense. Well, I swear like half of the class is just....AAGHHH..All they do is COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN, COMLAIN!! One student was yelling at her today because he is like "YOU NEED TO DO WHAT I PAY YOU TO DO --AND THAT IS TEACH!" It is like, well, idiot, maybe if you read your book, listen, take your own notes, then you can understand what the heck is going on. The teacher is there to help, but not tell you every last thing--that is what READING IS FOR!
Most of the students in this class are nursing majors and I don't know how they're going to make it honestly. We wasted so much time today talking about how we don't know what is going on instead of actually LEARNING THE MATERIAL.

Sorry, it is just frustrating to me because I spend a lot of time studying, reading my book and comprehending it, so I would love for the professor to be able to teach it and have it make sense/clarify things, but the students...man, they just don't understand how college works AT ALL.
They are like, "How are we supposed to study and be ready for this class if you don't give us notes?" UM, sorry, but hardly any of my teachers have EVER given me notes...we take our own notes.
OK, now I am done.

That rude student's comment was uncalled for. I bet the instructor will remember that name and face when it comes time do grades. :rotfl:

Our instructor absolutely will NOT gives us notes (some do). She wants to make sure we read the book (which makes sense).

Moonischasingme1, I know how you feel. Classmates like that are awful. I assume most of them will be going into nursing? They are in for a hige shock. From what I hear, most nursing schools don't use lots of study guides, etc. You actually have to work. So... just ignore them and make the most of the class yourself. Good luck!

I don't know about other schools, but we have to read so much and take notes because we have to prove it to our instructor. (She collects them and hands them back at the end and checks us off).

We have to go by a sheet which has our weekly assignments etc.......withing that there is more reading to do and going back and forth from book to book.

I am sure some of these students are in for the schock of their lives too when they start the nursing program. I knew it was going to be " a lot of work" but it is never the same when you are actually there.................There is plenty of work and more where that came from :rotfl:

I had my first class today.....I have never been so terrified in all my life. My professor told everyone that there will be a widespread epidemic of bird flu within the next five years:o . I wanted to cry right there in class:crying2: . He said that they are only making 2 million vaccines to be given to military and medical personnel. Well, that is well and good because I will be a nurse by then, but what about my children? I am so freaked out by this. Anyone have a similar discussion in class?

Birdflu was somewhat touched on by our prof but she also reminded us that we have a wonderful immune system which will be covered in A&P2.

I just had my first quizz and I know I didn't do too well on it. This class will kill me before the chicken flu has a chance to get me

I started micro today. My teacher is great. She's very patient. I actually enjoyed using the microscope and slides. We had to swab our mouths. Hopefully things will go smooth all semester. (I borrowed our micro book from the library; I'm tired of paying $130+ for books for one class. It's ridiculous!!) :no:

My professor said the same this about bird flu. It was scary.

I had my first day yesterday and we talked about the bird flu as well. The class seems like it will be fun. We have to identify two unknowns as well but they aren't worth very much. I think I am going to like this class better than my physiology class, except this one goes until 10 at night. I have an 8am class as well so it is a looonnnggg day.

I had my first actual class and lab today and I think this is going to be ok. Most of my class is nursing students with only 2 who are premed so I think it will be ok.:chuckle We didn't talk about the bird flu, but she talks so fast it is a good thing we can tape her.

I had my first micro class today. The teacher is really nice and I met some really sweet girls. We did a lab... had to test 2 environmental objects (sink handle and door knob), a body part (nose), and cough onto a Petri dish with blood agar (?). So, on Monday we'll view these dishes and see what turns up! The teacher did freak me out. She said if you're taking this micro, you're not gonna want to take A&P at the same time because it is extremely hard to do them together, especially if we want to get As and Bs. Well, I'm taking Micro, A&PII and Math for Meds. So now, I'm scared. Wish me luck!
