Hey ! I know im super early to make this thread for the MDE program at Columbia for the 2021 start year ? but I was wondering if there are any future nurses out there as eager as me to get started !!
@Gmilitar solid advice - thank you!
Yeah I would love to do the MPH (because I love learning too haha). I want to continue researching maternal health issues and interventions - and the programs I am looking at are $75,000 which is expensiiiiive - so I might just continue doing that work through my job currently, and like you said, continue to pursue other ways to be competitive.

yup definitely and 75k is a lot. you can save that money for a doctorate nursing degree, or possibly even apply for columbia’s nursing phd degree. I’m pretty sure you can learn some public health stuff in that program.
I was in the info session too ! Thats what makes me so nervous yet anxious ? I wish they could accept everyone, but they choose according to who shows a lot of passion for nursing and why they really want this. I hope we all get in !!
yeah they did say today I was wondering the same since that’s what they said in the info session. But I actually noticed this Wednesday is the last info session for the MDE program so I think it should be open after Wednesday ??♀️
@queen3lizabeth thank you for that ! maybe they will open right after Wednesday. Im so scared LOL yet super anxious. I hope they don't get too many applications just so we can all get accepted
@futurenursee123 No matter how many people apply, I think all of us on this thread has a GREAT chance. I think it says a lot about our passion being involved with a blog like this, being so incredibly eager, and rooting each other on to get into this program. It is apparent that we are all very intelligent human beings and just remember that everything happens for a reason. Lets give it our absolute all! That is all we can do. It is easier said than done to have that kind of mindset LOL, I am also extremely nervous but, I think you all will do a lot better than you might think(:
@angrenteria10 I know ? there’s one at 3pm eastern time im going to attend that one just to ask them when the application is going to open and I will give you all updates!!

personally, I wouldn’t do it just for the sole purpose of making your application to columbia more competitive. columbia is already expensive. total cost of tuition is about 120k. it may or may not help, it’ll depend on your grade and experience in that program. but I’d be more concern if grad school is worth the extra time and money just to make yourself look more competitive (and this won’t even be a guaranteed benefit). a lot of the students don’t have a masters, some do, and some are second career students. so I’d just look for other ways, that’s less expensive and time consuming, to make your application more stellar. also, columbia nursing grad is not as competitive to get into as their undergrad and other programs. I think 1/4 of their applicants are admitted in the program which is an admission percentage that is a lot higher than their other programs.
