Hey ! I know im super early to make this thread for the MDE program at Columbia for the 2021 start year ? but I was wondering if there are any future nurses out there as eager as me to get started !!

Columbia is my top choice and I can't help but think "What if?" if I go the NYU route and pull out of the Columbia application. One top consideration for me is that NYU will likely be all virtual for the first semester whereas hopefully by June 2021, Columbia will have some in-person offering. I did all of my pre-reqs virtually, and neither hated it nor loved it but I missed making friends.
NYU will start Feb. 1st, which is before we would hear a decision from Columbia sometime in February. If I don't get into Columbia, that puts me in a predicament to have to apply to other programs and delay my education by a few months.
What would you do in this situation? TIA!
Hey! Congrats on getting into NYU! thats an amazing program! Eeek what a predicament! I envy you, but also not at the same time LOL ? Its hard to put myself in your situation, also because I don't know much else about your life and environment. If I were to put myself if your position, CU is my first choice, I would hold off. But, there is also a reason you applied to NYU and if those similarities align with CU, I would take NYU in high consideration (also since they have already accepted you). Both are great programs/schools, highly competitive, and will get you to where you need to be in a year or so!
Congratulations again! You have a tough decision to make!

Hey! Congrats on getting into NYU! I am also in the same situation and I recently contacted a friend of mine who applied to both Columbia and NYU when she got her decision. Apparently, last cycle they also sent out decisions in waves due to the pandemic. Although she was waitlisted, she received her decision on Jan 27th. So I am hoping that before classes start, we will be able to at least get a decision. It is certainly a difficult decision deciding if the non-refundable deposit is something you are comfortable gambling in order to hear back on a decision for an application we have spend so many months perfecting and stressing over.
Hope this helps a little ?

I’m an Columbia applicant from last year. We all got our decisions on the 27th: acceptances, waitlist and rejections. This was all pre-covid so I'm a tad confused myself ??♀️I thought it was the first time too.

I can offer a bit of insight into this. I was going to use Excelsior to test out of my Lifespan Psychology requirement. The study guides they provide are OK. I ended up not taking the exam because it was scheduled around the time lockdowns began to happen due to COVID and also realized that not all schools I am applying for will accept testing out of the course so I am currently retaking it as a class. I would recommend doing the same for stats as it's a common requirement from a lot of nursing schools to have statistics that no more than 5 years old. I also joined a group for other students taking Excelsior courses and they may be able to offer insight on taking a stats course. The group is called MyStudyGroup101. Hope this helps ❤️

I lost hope for this week at this point. I don’t think they know exactly when they’re going to send them out. Hopefully before Christmas at least because I am also super impatient and nervous ?

Hi there! I'm thinking/hoping we'll hear from Columbia sooner than February (at least for first round of decisions) based on the email they sent out awhile ago and from what someone heard at an open house. If I were you, I would pay the deposit for NYU (if you can - I know it's quite a lot) and then hopefully you will hear from Columbia soon ?
