MDE Columbia University 2021

Published

Hey ! I know im super early to make this thread for the MDE program at Columbia for the 2021 start year ? but I was wondering if there are any future nurses out there as eager as me to get started !!

Here is what Admissions just sent me in regards to an update: "We should have something out soon with regard to a timeline." ... Not too specific.

Oohh *runs to go check email* LOL

Hmm, I didn't get an update email but "...with regard to a timeline" makes me think we may not be getting results but an update on when we will get results?

Still not sleeping from anxiety ? haha

Many people emailed admissions asking about updates to their application and when they’ll send out a timeline email. All the responses back from admissions are basically the same for everyone. I don’t think we’ll get much of a “timeline”. It probably may be an email stating when we’ll expect the different rounds of decisions or we’ll just get a decision email for those who made it to the first rounds. Then next month the second rounds, and so on and so forth. So it’s just the waiting game at this point ??‍♀️

Does anyone know if Columbia does interviews? Or is it just simply accepted/rejected?

Im not sure about the DNP portion, but from what I understood the timed essay and the Video response takes place of an interview

You are correct, to confirm, the DNP/MDE applicants also don’t have to interview. The video and timed essay substitutes for an interview.

Hello, everyone! Hope you're all doing well. I'm wondering if anyone else (besides me) has also not yet received the email saying your application has passed screening and is being forwarded to admissions for review? I'm definitely a bit concerned about it and will probably reach out to admissions tomorrow, but figured I'd ask here first, in case I'm not alone. ? Thanks!

And just to clarify — in the online application system, my application looks like it’s all complete. I also haven’t received any emails asking me to submit/upload any additional info or documents. Anyone else in the same situation, or have any ideas?

I'm in your situation as well. I've emailed them but they haven't provided much insight into where my application is in the process (that or they flat out tell me they can't say). I can provide insight from the last application cycle... however, due to the influx of applications this year this info should be taken with a grain of salt.

last cycle (2019-2020)

application deadline -  10/15/19

received the email notifying me my application passed initial review - 10/31/19

Columbia Scholarship Application deadline - 12/15/19 (this year it was due on the same day as the app was)

received an email to submit fall grades - 1/9/20

email with decisions released (MDE and DNP) - 1/27/20

Thanks so much for all of that. It's nice to know I'm not the only one who hasn't received the 'passed initial review' email. I also appreciate seeing what the timeline was like this past cycle.

My fear with it of course is, "Oh dear, what if it means they decided very early on to reject me? Did my application not pass screening and they just aren't telling me?" But I know there are other possible explanations, too. ? Including that maybe this is due to the way they're processing applications in rounds this cycle, which could mean applications are being screened at different times, months apart.

Either way, I'm going to keep the faith! I did also just email admissions about it, and will let you know if I hear anything back that seems different from what they told you.

I honestly believe they will be reviewing in rounds. So if you didn’t get the “passed initial review” email then it probably means you’ll get it during the second or third rounds ! Due to the Influx of applications they probably just wanna break all applications into different pieces to make it easier on them. So for those who did not get the email yet, I wouldn’t worry. You’ll get one soon ! Most likely after the first rounds go out

No worries, I’m glad it helped and yes! Though our minds immediately go to worrying and anxiety (anxiety has gotten the best of me at times too ?) it’s best to keep the faith. ❤️I wish they were more upfront about a timeline (having one, not having one?  when is soon to them?...these are some of the thoughts that go through my head LOL) it but I honestly think they are trying their very best given the circumstances. They are all working from home with an increased amount of applications to go through and probably more limited staff due to the pandemic. Please do update us if they tell you anything different ?? There is a number of us who still haven’t heard yet about passing the initial review.
