Hey ! I know im super early to make this thread for the MDE program at Columbia for the 2021 start year ? but I was wondering if there are any future nurses out there as eager as me to get started !!
Hi! I was wondering if anybody could speak on Columbia’s MDE program vs NYU ABSN program. Obviously I know Columbia gives a masters degree and NYU gives a bachelors degree, but is there a huge difference in pay/ when it comes down to finding a job? In other words, is there a significant benefit to getting the masters degree over a bachelors degree? And secondly, does anybody have any experience with either programs reputation?
I was accepted to the NYU program but I think Columbia is my top choice because it is a graduate program and I’m wondering if there’s a big difference between the two programs. And does anybody have any idea of how much more difficult the Columbia program is to get into over NYU? I don’t want to get my hopes up if there’s only a slim chance:(

Hi!
I do not think anyone here would be able to tell you how much more difficult it is to get into Columbia versus NYU. When do you need to commit to NYU? We are supposed to find out the first round decision in mid December.

I can’t answer all your questions but if your goal is to be just an RN then a bachelors degree would be just as good as a masters. It depends on your preference. There are those who actually got rejected from NYU and may be accepted to Columbia. Im not sure about difficulty, but it solely depends on the admissions committee at each school and how they accept students. They are both accelerated programs so the work load will be the same. My personal preference is a masters degree because I would like to pursue my DNP. If my goal was just an RN I would’ve definitely applied to many accelerated bachelors degree. So it basically is all up to you and your preference even though both programs are very good.

Hi! First time poster here ? I've debated on this when choosing nursing schools haha. Based on what my mentors have told me though, is that if you plan on pursuing leadership/management positions in nursing then getting the Masters would be more beneficial! Either way I believe both will get you to the same place at the end of the day. ? This is my first time applying so I'm not really sure which is more competitive but hopefully you can delay your NYU decision until we hear back this month!!
Hey everyone,
I have a similar question to @Sky4595. I was accepted into Johns Hopkins and rejected at NYU. Both programs start at the end of January and would require me to make a decision before I likely will hear back from Columbia. Columbia is my top choice but I'm feeling less confident about the prospects of being accepted after not getting into NYU. I guess its hard to really say definitively which program is more competitive. But I'm just feeling very helpless and perplexed about what to do in this situation.
My stats are probably average, in terms of GPA. I think my application strengths are in my healthcare related experience, LOR and essays. Here's to hoping that Columbia takes a more holistic view of candidates than NYU.
However, at the end of the day I realize I'm incredibly lucky to have been accepted into a program already and one that is great in many ways. I just feel, and I'm sure many of you can attest to this, that after spending so much time preparing to apply to school (never ending prerequisites, essays, LOR, work experience etc), it's worth waiting for what feels right.
Anyway thanks for coming to my TedTalk/ dear diary moment. If anyone has any insight or suggestions on what to do I'm all ears!

Congratulations for getting into JHU! It’s a great school!!
I believe NYU has less available seats than CUSON. Please don’t get discouraged by one rejection. Schools look for very different applicants each year to ensure they have a diverse cohort. How soon do you need to commit to JHU? Would you be able to postpone your acceptance to Fall? If I were you, I would wait for first round decision and then decide if it’s worth it for me to keep waiting.
Hi! Looking for some advice here. I was just accepted to NYU's Spring 2021 ABSN program. I owe them a decision by this Friday, 12/11!!
Columbia is my top choice and I can't help but think "What if?" if I go the NYU route and pull out of the Columbia application. One top consideration for me is that NYU will likely be all virtual for the first semester whereas hopefully by June 2021, Columbia will have some in-person offering. I did all of my pre-reqs virtually, and neither hated it nor loved it but I missed making friends.
NYU will start Feb. 1st, which is before we would hear a decision from Columbia sometime in February. If I don't get into Columbia, that puts me in a predicament to have to apply to other programs and delay my education by a few months.
What would you do in this situation? TIA!

Exactly! As long as you've already done the FAFSA and sent it to your other schools, they will still have the info. They just won't get the updated one that says you're a graduate student (only Columbia will) - if I'm understanding correctly ?
