Hey ! I know im super early to make this thread for the MDE program at Columbia for the 2021 start year ? but I was wondering if there are any future nurses out there as eager as me to get started !!

I don't think there is necessarily a cutoff when you should do an addendum. I would use the addendum to explain a drop in your grades, for example, if you received a C or below in a class. That's what I personally used it for.
@RRTtoAGACNP - I believe everyone may get a different generated question for the timed writing but im not sure. Im dreading the video and timed writing ?
@JRoseC427 - Hi ! Well, the addendum is optional. It's only up to you if you feel like you may need to do it. They look at everything as a whole, so they don’t have a GPA requirement.
@KAS212 - Honestly, thats up to you ! If you feel like you need to address your GPA if you think its a bit low, you can write one. I know Columbia doesn’t have a GPA requirement though, so everything is how you feel and what you want to explain. Im sure it won’t hinder your application either way since I know people with 2.75 GPA even get accepted!

I don't know if I have anything in particular to address except I have a B- on one of my undergrad classes (not a prerequisite). My overall GPA is above 3.5 as well. I feel like I would just come off trying too hard if I had to justify that B-, but at the same time I think everyone is writing Addendum and the optional essay??? What do you even write in the optional essay?

I feel the same way! The admissions would probably roll their eyes like, seriously?
@JRoseC427 @KAS212 I don’t think you have to really address that grade/GPA but again, it’s really up to you. I think a lot of people are doing the addendum just to do it for the purpose of getting in which Im doing LOL. I guess if you received a C or even an F that would be something to explain. For the optional essay, I have no clue at all they didn’t really explain that. Im going to email admissions about that.

try to get MOST of your prereqs done, I know 4 people that were waitlisted for this years class, including myself. we were all told, after emailing admin, that we did not have enough of our science prereqs completed. I only had ap2 and micro to take ..all my other prereqs were done. they did offer next cohort..but thats a long story. it was surprising because I thought I messed up on my application somewhere LOL but no it was my prereqs! even tho they say you have until classes begin thats not the case for the sciences, I think they wanted to see those pretty much sealed up.

Thanks for letting me know! I was planning on taking microbio on portage learning and starting it this week, and have it completed in about 3 months. I'm also going to take AP1 and nutrition in the fall. This way the only pending prereq I will have is AP2 that I will have to take in the Spring. Then, I can graduate! I hope this will be enough for an acceptance. I also have 5+ other science courses that I've taken with above a B, so I hope that helps as well.. What do you think? Thanks!

you will def get into CU, I think what they look for like @Gmilitar said is alot of you wanting to serve under represented populations, giving back to the community, people that know what they want to do in their nursing career. my friend got in and had 2.5gpa but A, Bs in all her prereqs. so you can def get in.
also I've done all my sciences thru portage and it was good. until the one im in now, orgo (need it for the program im attending) and the exams are recorded so that is new and annoying ! but you can def do micro in 3 months I think I did it in 4, and ap I did in like 2 months because they used to let you take exams every 3 days and I had taken ap before...but all in all you can def get into CU!!

The addendum is optional! I think mainly if you have poor grades + low GPA is when you would write one.
oh WOW!! I honestly would not even know what to explain in the addendum if I had a high GPA haha
