I just finished the personal statement and social justice essay. I am going to do the addendum though, but im not sure about the optional essay. Because admissions had told me it’s basically like the addendum. So im not sure if that’s something im gonna do since everything will be addressed in the addendum ??‍♀️

Yeah, that's what I was wondering and I felt stumped for a second LOL. Same I'm doing the same and pray for the best. They have an info session coming up are going to attend? Also, has anyone did the time writing? a little anxious on that part.

Yes im definitely attending so I can ask them questions again about this application before it gets submitted. Im super anxious to start the timed writing but yet so nervous because I don’t wanna mess up LOL. I didn’t do the video interview yet either

Is there a reason why everyone is doing the addendum?

I don't believe everyone is doing it. I think the people who are doing are just trying to explain any hiccups or temporary school leave or anything that might have affected them in undergrad.

Yeah not everyone is doing it. It’s optional if you want to explain a specific low grade or GPA in a course or during your undergrad. Im going to do it to explain a low GPA I had for a couple semesters. But if your GPA and course grades are fine you don’t have to do one

Hi guys,

I attended the virtual information session today. I thought I would share the main takeaways from the meeting.

  • Average GPA accepted - 3.4 to 3.7 (ranges from 2.75 to 4.0) **If you're an older student with a low undergrad GPA, but have a graduate degree with marked improvement in your GPA. This will work in your favor.
  • Include hobbies and travel in your resume (suggested 2 to 3 pages)
  • References are weighted heavily, don't ask someone for a reference if you will only reap a subpar recommendation.
  • If you are missing prerequisites the admissions committee recommends Portage Learning and Excelsior. With Excelsior you are able to "test out" and receive credit. All prerequisites must come from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Clinical rotations are chosen for you in the MDE portion. There is more autonomy with clinical sites in the DNP portion of the program.
  • NCLEX pass rate on average is 90% - please take into consideration that this fluctuates from year to year.
  • Clinical hours by program - MDE: 850 to 1000, DNP: 750

Some rough statistics that were shared:

  • 800 applicants, 200 accepted into the MDE portion
  • between 20 to 40 students are accepted into each DNP specialty. (For example, FNP, AGACNP, PMHNP, Midwifery etc.) The specialties are highly competitive.

Here is some information you're most likely already aware of:

  • Start date - Summer 2021
  • Prerequisites needed - AP 1, AP 2, Microbio, Nutrition, Psych, and Statistics. Statistics can be no older than 5 years from the time of the start date.

If you plan on applying to the MDE/DNP program, make sure to talk about why you are applying to the DNP program in your personal statement. According to the Admissions, if you only speak about why you want to become a Nurse in your personal statement, you will most likely not get accepted into the DNP program. My advice is to make sure you know what the specialty you are applying for entails and what the scope of practice is.

I hope this helps. Good luck everyone!

Thanks for the summary! I just attended the info session too! If 200 students are enrolled for each cohort, I have to think they accept more than 200 students in case someone declines the offer?

Hey guy,

I have, what I hope to be, is two solid recommendations from professors however I am having difficulty choosing the third recommender. On the application it asks for one recommender to be an employer, but during the one of the info session, we were told that the recommender should be an academic advisor from school if we were currently an unemployed college student. Does anyone have any input on which recommender I should lean towards? Thanks!

For recommendations, I would choose a candidate who is likely to give you a strong reference letter. I choose my Supervisor at my current job and two professors. Hope that helps.

I am also debating whether I should ask an academic advisor or doctor I shadowed for my last LOR. I was initially leaning towards the doctor, however, after the info session, I thought I should follow admissions advice and ask the academic advisor instead?

Also regarding travel and hobbies, do we have to include this on the actual resume even though there is already a separate space for us to write this down on the application? Also, what do we write for travel, that seems kind of confusing/random?

They know some students have been unemployed, so you can have an academic advisor write one, or another professor! If you want be absolutely certain you can always email admissions letting them know the situation and they’ll give you the best option
