I am also debating whether I should ask an academic advisor or doctor I shadowed for my last LOR. I was initially leaning towards the doctor, however, after the info session, I thought I should follow admissions advice and ask the academic advisor instead?

Also regarding travel and hobbies, do we have to include this on the actual resume even though there is already a separate space for us to write this down on the application? Also, what do we write for travel, that seems kind of confusing/random?

Well it depends if the other LOR’s were academic or professional. If they were academic then I would suggest the doctor, if they were professional I would choose an academic advisor. And for the travel and hobbies, I was wondering the same thing ? its so confusing. Im not sure if we have to write it in the space already available to us, and also on the resume ? So confusing.

In regards to traveling, I think it shows the admissions committee that you're able to work outside of your comfort zone. It exposes you to different things, cultures, and shows you how diverse the world is. Columbia wants students that are willing to get out there and serve those that are in need. They also are probably seeking students that are willing to participate in the Global Initiative placement. I put my travel experience in my resume and in the space allotted.

Hope this helps.

Does anyone have any tips on timed writing? Is the topic chosen completely random?

OK so you have to upload your resume AND include on your resume you’re travel experiences and hobbies. Then you need to rewrite them in the travel and hobbies section. This was explained to us in one of the open houses last year.
the reason for the double entry is because the DNP committee doesn’t not see your entire application. They are forwarded parts of the application, one part is the resume. Also when the MDE committee is going thru applications they can search up someone or something memorable. This is the example That was given to us: if someone was an equestrian as one of their hobbies then the committee could type in their system “equestrian” and that application would pop up. It has more to do with the way their application is made. (MODERATOR EDIT OF NAME), the main man you might have been in contact with regarding this program is the one that makes the application so he can probably further clarify this.

I had applied last cycle and have literally asked every question LOL. For the timed writing It’s random but you might get the same question as someone else. Mine was about leadership. Don’t focus on the actual answer, they are looking to see how well you can narrate, your verbiage, how well written you are. Make sure your grammar is good, again they are more so looking to see how well you can put words together. It was explained to us last year that this aligns with nurses having to take report/chart or having to write notes during clinical. They are looking for clear, concise, and decent grammar. (Someone in my group asked this last year at an open house for the psych DNP.)

Hi! I have a question about taking ap2 on portage learning. Do I have to show proof or something that I've taken ap1 (at my college) in order to take ap2 on portage learning?

I don’t think so. Because on portage all you do is just purchase the course and thats it. There aren’t any requirements I believe on portage learning.

I think so. Basically all you do is find the courses and purchase them, then the instructor is assigned. It may be the same instructor for both ap1 & ap2. It was the same one for me but I took ap1 first and once I finished I took ap2.

Hello! Has anyone taken any courses through Columbia's OPEN prerequisite program? If so, how are the classes structured/are the exams proctored or open book? I'm planning to take A&P2 and possibly Microbio so any insight would help! ?
