also with the schedule, I know of 2 people in my cohort that altered their schedule because they had "extenuating work circumstances"...so I was just saying this is definitely not allowed at any other program. also, you absolutely cannot change your clinical site at another school, but at Monroe people were literally asking to be switched to different groups bc "they lived too far" and they were allowed to switch, and it wasn't a few people it was almost half the cohort. I was just saying these are examples of Monroe "being lenient" --not that this is a good thing--and that normal programs would never allow these things

I 100% agree with you! I know someone that just graduated 6/15 from the ABSN and she was like "just fyi you will need to study all over again bc we learned nothing from Monroe". and I know bc I have personal experience with another nursing school and Monroe is def leaving things off. trust me I know bc my cohort is having that issue now with maternity, we have to teach ourselves and "read" chapters with no background or any other information. maternity is a new world with new lingo and having to teach yourself is insane...for example, we did not go over APGAR in class...were told to read about it in the book. its also funny how Monroe doesn't boast about their BSN NCLEX rates..but imo their rates will go down because they are def not teaching properly in the ABSN. in regards to the schedule, it is a double-edged sword because like I was saying Monroe is very lenient on certain things you would NEVER ever get away with at other programs. however, that comes with a price...bc the "days off" should be clinical days. and for example, I have friends in other programs that get validated on skills (which is a known thing in most nursing schools)...I have been validated on a head to toe assessment that's it. not IVs, caths, trach cleaning, and insertion, there are so many things missing, and it's scary. @Joyonelittle I was recommended to start studying UWorld in august to get a head start bc I finish end of the year, whats your opinion on this? thank you!

yes, agree 100%. in the accelerated, you are rushed and the focus is not on clinical or going to the sim lab. the focus is to pass exams and prepare to take the NCLEX. yes, we went to the sim lab but only for like 3-4 weeks and for 10 minutes each time. I am towards the end of the program and have never been shown IVs, we briefly spoke about EKGs in the sim lab but never in class, for maternity we are really missing out big time that's a whole other story...Monroe really can use their simulation lab way more even to practice skills. I have been told we can't go to the sim lab to practice but then ill see the LPNs in there practicing for a class time (which is like 2 hours LOL) but I get it bc our program is rushed, to begin with. another issue is they have professors that should be switched with clinical instructors because they are not good at teaching..simply put

I’m in monroe ABSN right now. The truth is the ABSN program is on the back burner they focus way more on the progressive program. Reason why is because their lpn-RN NCLEX pass rate is like 99% so that’s what they care about. And yes the stuff that @Jan hyman said is true. However, Monroe is a very “lenient” program. For example, if you want to change your clinical site you can switch with someone. That is literally not even allowed at any other program LOL so IDK why/how they do it. Other little things like you can wear nail polish, you get blueprints for exams, and the scheduling of classes is very good. Example: all my Monday classes have started at 12/1pm, also there are asynchronous classes mixed in with the regular ones. Now they do the bare minimum when it comes to clinicals. They do seem to have an issue with sites because if BMCC associates program has some clinicals at Bellevue …how can monroe not get sites ? IDK. But yes there is 0 emphasis in the ABSN on clinical and it’s not because of COVID. Also yes they are very disorganized, every school is, but they are disorganized over things they have knowledge of which is weird. For example, I know people that have gone to monroe and they have had the same exact issue with certain clinical sites like jacobi but they continue to go there …or attempt to go there because no one actually successfully goes to clinical smh. the teachers are probably imo the main issue. They aren’t mean or anything they just don’t like to or don’t care to teach. (There are 2 AMAZING professors and you will know one for sure if you go to monroe.) They have the same professors teaching the progressive and ABSN so these professors are using the same plan to teach a 3 year program as a 4 semester program. It’s a mess. You HAVE TO teach yourself for certain classes. like I said monroe is lenient but because of that it’s easy to slack off so you have to stay on it.

If you are a student not in Monroe and your an lpn (and you already took the pnnclex) but not an RN then you have to take the predictor exam which is on ATI in order to get into Monroe lpn- RN program.

sorry didn't read the question all the way, if you pass it then yes you would be able to start again with another cohort but you will have to wait to they are in the same position as you. for example, lets say you have just taken the lpn-NCLEX and passed it oon the 2nd try during this semester (Spring 2021) and you want to start the RN portion this fall 2021 lets say. but the cohort behind you is not taking their lpn-NCLEX until jan 2022, then you would have to wait until April 2022 (which is monroe's Spring semester) to start with that cohort because that is when they will be starting their RN portion.

so before if you failed it you couldnt come back, you would be dismissed from the program. but with covid they changed it (not sure if they will change the rules back.) if you fail now then you would have to wait until another cohort is ready to take it. for example, my bf's friend didn't pass it, so he had to wait 3 semesters to retake it with the next cohort, because the cohort after your class might not be taking their exam in the next semester so you have to wait until they do to join their class. hope that makes sense because its hard to type out and explain it! you can pm me if you want as well!

Yes that’s true! I believe there were 2 people in his class that didn’t pass it on the first try I believe and they had to stay behind ? you can take it again but you won’t move onto the next semester to do the RN

Yes…After lpn they had to take the lpn NCLEX I think it’s called the pnclex I forgot. Then once you pass than you can move forward to the next part which is the RN. (You have to pass that lpn NCLEX to be able to move forward) So this December he will be LPN-RN. Then in jan 2022 he will work as an lpn while doing his BSN!

NP/PMHNP Work Culture
pharmacy tech here in nyc and I would never in 1million years EVER be a pharmacist. they treat pharmacist so bad and they are so disrespected and devalued. It's one of those careers that looks amazing on the outside but its terrible. I have been a tech for 6 years and have gotten my bach in psych and am now starting my ABSN program. I never wanted to be a pharmacist but becoming a tech was a quick way to get some medical experience without having experience. I know many pharmacists that have left..one just quit last Tuesday she literally walked out during her shift. pharmacy is also very saturated now, for example, a tech I worked with just graduated she is making $40/hr as a new grad floater pharmacist. this is insane as here in nyc there are lpns making 40-45$/hr. and this is the going rate at retail chains for pharmacists now. I am horrified the way "corporate" comes and speaks to pharmacists. we had a visit last week and the DM literally asked my PIC "how would you feel about getting a 30min lunch break?" smh bc as you know pharmacist in retail don't even get lunch breaks, although I heard one retailer started closing for an hour to give the staff a break. pharmacy is a joke sorry but it is and the culprits are big pharma. they are so money hungry, as a tech I am over worked and underpaid but I didn't go to school for 4-6 years nor do I have a doctorate so I don't complain. but I feel so so bad for pharmacists.

Monroe College Bachelors of nursing program
so for portage there's one called 'global religion and culture' and then there's 'intro to ethics' they are both under humanities ...the reason I was told those might have been allowed was bc I sent the syllabus to my advisor and both courses when you read the description are geared toward health care students/health related field. but I never heard back from the nursing department so I just left it alone LOL
