MDC Nursing spring 2014

Published

So I'm starting the post for Spring 2014. I'm currently waiting for my acceptance letter for fall term but just in case applying for spring is my back up plan.

So my GPA is 3.0 and my teas is 72 giving me a score around 73.

Since I didn't get a first round email for fall I'm thinking of retaking my teas test so if anyone is willing to study with me please let me know. Good luck to everyone applying for spring!!

If you have a facebook for Ft my email is [email protected] please ad me

I have added you to the ft generic med campus group, check your email

How long did it take for everyone's DCF letter to clear? I went to get my fingerprints a week ago and still haven't heard anything. Wasn't sure where to call or if I should just give it more time?

I appreciate any responses

I waited two weeks. Call the Dean's Office.

Bridge people check your emails....they have sent us the handbook and manual that they want us to take to orientation next week.

Thank you for the heads up! Been checking periodically but didn't see anything will check now

Went to the full-time generic Homestead orientation this morning at Medical campus? Emails? No one got them. It was a very long orientation reading out from the handbook. Don't understand why us Homestead students had to spend two hours in traffic this morning and one hour back, should have been done at Homestead. There was nothing new presented except that we had to pre-resistrer for tomorrows Pearsons test. Aside, from that seems a little disorganized. The sign-in list did not have all the attendees and not everyone was able to register for classes today. So some technical issues going on for sure.

Hello. Does anyone knows the retention/graduation rate for miami dade college RN program. I heard most students in Broward College failed the course, so I was wondering if its the same in Miami Dade. How many admitted and how many actually graduated from the program? Thanks

They already put the overall score on the pearson exam... You just need to login in the same website where we registered and click on the left side corner where it says results they should be posted there.

Btw does anybody knows what do they do with this scores? How can they affect you?

It seems that the test was more about us helping out Pearson with their questions than it was about them evaluating our performance. Basically, the test results don't really mean anything.

This is from a generic med campus student graduating this upcoming May, they said that out of the original 150 in the cohort, only 90 remain, which is a dropout rate of 40%. That is just generic, and just his graduating class, I don't know what it is for ao bridge etc. that is just the people who have made it to third semester, they still have another semester to go, plus boards.

I find this dropout rate unfortunately believable - for anyone who did their prereqs at mdc and had the opportunity to boost your grade through community service projects, lowest test marks dropped, and other assorted extra credit assignments, don't expect this to be the case in nursing school. Health care education is all about critical thinking, not memorization nor guessing. You have to fully understand concepts and be able to apply your knowledge to a variety of situations, anticipate outcomes, and be proactive about learning. As well, just to pass, you need at least 77%, which really isn't good enough if you plan to get a bsn (you should be). If you only learnt 77% of the information that will form a basis for your bsn studies, how can you expect to do well?

There is a wealth of free resources online that I suggest everyone start getting accustomed to accessing - there are tons of nursing student vblogs on YouTube where ppl give study tips and info, as well as khan academy, which has tons of videos about all kinds of stuff. Going over the syllabi beforehand and knowing the learning outcomes before school starts would also be helpful.

Get to know your classmates right away and form study groups, forget about competing with each other and just help each other.

They are usually down to half their class size by nursing process 2 which is only the second half of the first semester.

The saying is that MDC is harder to get into, but easier to pass.. Broward is easier to get into but harder to pass. But broward's NCLEX passing rate is in the high 90s percentile which is higher then MDC's which is in the 80s percentile..
