MDC Nursing spring 2014

U.S.A. Florida

So I'm starting the post for Spring 2014. I'm currently waiting for my acceptance letter for fall term but just in case applying for spring is my back up plan.

So my GPA is 3.0 and my teas is 72 giving me a score around 73.

Since I didn't get a first round email for fall I'm thinking of retaking my teas test so if anyone is willing to study with me please let me know. Good luck to everyone applying for spring!!

When did they say we were able to use financial aid to buy books and stuff? Was it december 9th? Please help

I think it was Tuesday the 10th.

Can anyone recommend a good rolling backpack

Can someone tell me what the website is to buy the 4 books that were mentioned in orientation? I believe you can buy them hardcover or as an app. It's the: Nurse's pocket guide, Taber's cyclopedic medical dictionary, Davis's comprehensive handbook of laboratory diagnostic tests with nursing implications & Davis's drug guide for nurses. Thanks!

I got the package they told us of the three books plus 5 other books.. I didn't get the app though. I'm confused I just told the lady to give me all that I'm going to need for my first semester, I rather have it all than be sorry for missing something when classes start. All I'm missing is a better stethoscope and the white shoes they want us to wear during clinicals.

Who is going to be using the paperback reference books and who is planning on using the Nursing Central app?

I want to get the Nursing Central app that has them all together but still not sure if it will be a problem during clinicals to use your phone to look at the apps for reference.

If anyone is planning to get the app, its available at the Unbound Medicine website. They are giving an extra 20% off for the app during the holidays.

Hey all !!! Congrats on your acceptance into the MDC program ! I just completed the generic program in Homestead

Hey everyone,

I'm a little more than a year into the part-time program and thought I'd give some advice:

- If you can help it, don't buy the books at MDC bookstore. They're way overpriced. Look for Amazon or Ebay. On that same note, I never had the need to use the Dictionary. With so many apps (free ones too) available, you can easily look up info from them.

- The Pearson test you took already doesn't mean anything. Its just to gauge stuff but has no effect in your classes.

- There's a nursing store right across the street on 20th st (a few stores to the left of Wendy's). They sell a lot of clothes and are cheaper. May be worth it to take a look. They also have other stuff.

- I'd recommend finding a good group of friends and use them to your advantage for study groups and help in general.

- Always strive for a good grade, but even if you get a C's here and there, don't panic. Completely normal.

Good luck!

I absolutely agree with your views on taking advantage of any and all resources available to help students understand how to apply what they are learning in lectures as well as , going over the syllabi prior to beginning each course. This past week I emailed each professor respectfully requesting a copy of the syllabus and any other related materials necessary so I might be able to use my holiday break time wisely...I am a first time student in the Generic Full-time and I want to give these classes the time and respect they deserve... Disappointingly, I only received 2 syllabi out of 5. I am missing NUR1060C Adult Health Assessment Cassandra Sturrup (Which I hear will be a challenge), Intro to Nursing Math & Pharm NUR1142 Annette Tomlinson and last but not least I am missing the syllabus for NUR1025L Fundamentals Nursing Clinical Lab with Torrie Holloman... I know you've probably graduated already....but any ideas on how to get these syllabi so I can begin reading the proper chapters or at least get an idea of what I am walking into.....I searched the school website for faculty members emails....Monday I think I'll just call and boldly ask for their emails....Thanks for your post and congratulations on graduating. It's an AMAZING accomplishment.

T.Williams :)

Hi Twilliams,

I haven't graduated yet lol. I'm a little more than halfway done (since I'm in the part-time track which takes forever).

I know there is a "G" drive folder on the school computers where you can look up teachers and stuff like their syllabus and any powerpoints they may have. Unfortunately I believe the school is closed for this week. But honestly, I would enjoy your free time now cause you won't have any once school starts. I was like you in the beginning, I wanted to read ahead but trust me, enjoy your break.

Intro to Nursing Math/Pharm is really easy and you have a good teacher. I wouldn't sweat about that class. The skills lab is fairly easy as well. Fundies and Health Assessment will be a little more of a challenge but definitely doable.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask :)

Hello everyone,

Is there a facebook group for the Generic FT Homestead c/o '15?
