Maybe it is about taking away guns

Democrats showing their true colors.  This incoming congresswoman has obtained a DC concealed carry permit and permission from the Capital Police to carry her firearm.  Now all of a sudden they want to change a rule that has been in place since the 60's.

Are there security and guards in the capital buildings? Is there a clear reason that someone should carry a weapon casually onto that property or is this simply a situation of someone believing that their privilege is a right, again.  Where does it say in the constitution that people can carry weapons anywhere they prefer at any time? Can you think of any other places where people are not allowed to enter while armed?

Gosh it sure looks like some gun owners are looking for argument.

Newly elected Rep Lauren Boebert owns Shooters Grill in Rifle, CO, open carries with a Glock on her hip at work in this rural community. Legislators currently allowed to carry in their office but not on the House of Representatives floor.  Why does she need a gun at work, is it that dangerous there?   Capital Police use metal detector screening of staff and visitors How much of this is publicity???

If this was anything other than a new member publicity stunt plus audition to be the next Dana Loesch she wouldn't need to obfuscate the issue with her red herring about Washington DC being a dangerous city.

She didn't need permission to carry a concealed weapon on Capitol grounds.

The letter doesn't mention her personally, but that didn't stop her from pretending they did.

Democrats actually expressed the same concerns about the 1967 regulation in 2018.

Just as an aside, I read that she defied guidelines on Thanksgiving indoor gatherings by declaring she invited 30 people to her house for a funeral for a dead turkey.

I have major doubts the people of her Colorado district will be well-served.

What exactly are the concerns from the Democrats that anyone here finds that are legitimate?  She is a law abiding citizen who legally owns and carries her firearm.  A non-"assault type" weapon, btw.

Publicity stunt?  LOL....maybe,by the Democrats who are the ones making an issue out of it.

Having been seversl times to both the town where she is from and DC, its reasonable she may fear for her safety in DC.

Not a gun owner myself, btw.  Other then a .22 rifle at boy scout camp several decades ago, I don't recall that I've even touched a gun.

Guns are banned in the Capital for the general public.  What about other law abiding citizens in one of the most dangerous cities.  When they visit the Capital on business or for tours should they be allowed to open carry since it's so dangerous there.  Don't they have the right to defend themselves the same as her?   I would think the more people with guns the safer it would be.

If she's that worried about her safety in DC, maybe she shouldn't have gone to all that trouble to get a job there ...

Well, you did use a pretty provocative thread title to describe that letter, which looks to have been for internal consumption (one group of congresspeople to another group of congresspeople) rather than destined for Fox News fame.

"They're trying to take our guns away" is an argument I never found plausible, and I do try to see issues from the opposite point of view, even if I disagree with it.

My objection to her mention of crime in dangerous DC was that it isn't relevant to what her specific complaint was about.

I have relatives in Colorado and spent much time there as well as visited Washington DC as a tourist. Rifle a small mountain town seems safe. I've never been a witness to or a victim of a crime in either place.

She has the privilege under a 50+ year old regulation to carry a gun in the Capitol.  Why now, are the Democrats trying to get the rule changed?

They tried in 2018, so it's not like they are suddenly taking a new position to go after your guns.

If you want to know why now again,  they presented a letter to Pelosi that I'm sure you can find online that presents their case.  The timing is now because the congresswoman made public that she would be carrying a gun.  If she had privilege for the last 50 years, and it's concealed, why would she choose now to brag about it?  Clearly she as much of an agenda as the Democrats do.  It's working, people are getting riled up about it.
