Maybe it is about taking away guns

Democrats showing their true colors.  This incoming congresswoman has obtained a DC concealed carry permit and permission from the Capital Police to carry her firearm.  Now all of a sudden they want to change a rule that has been in place since the 60's.

The fact that firearms can be regulated by government is clearly stated in the 2nd amendment: "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

Both the Heller and the McDonald decisions do state and reiterate that the core purpose of the 2nd Amendment is to allow for individual self defense, but also that regulation regarding "sensitive places" and possession by felons and the mentally ill is permissible. It also means that laws forbidding firearms possession by all individuals except a certain select few cannot stand.

In short, while the 2A doesn't confer an unfettered right to carry whatever, wherever, it also doesn't give Government an unfettered power to regulate firearms either.

This is all very much a very new holding (since 2008) and the full scope of the 2A has yet to be fleshed out. The holdings of both cases above can very much still be modified. The Miller case, as far as I know, hasn't been overturned either. Interesting case, as I recall.

On second thought maybe congresspersons should be allowed to carry concealed or even open carry guns.

Especially when there are crazy men inciting riots in the capitol from the pulpit of the presidency.
