May 2009 Graduates!!! Do you have a job yet?

Published

I was just curious if everyone is finding jobs? I personally only applied for one hospital as there are 4 within 30 miles from me, but the one I applied for is the closest. Everyone in my class including myself started applying in January and most of us interviewed in Feb. I haven't got a call yet but they said they would be calling this week....I am crossing my fingers!!!

Anyhow I know that everyone around here is pretty much not having a problem but I didn't know what it was like in other areas.

Whats the pay like?

benifits?

reimbursements?

The position I applied for actually is on the lower end of the pay scale, but the benefits and reimbursement outway what the other hospitals offer. So what factors did you calculate when finding your first job as an GN.

Heartbroken, you poor soul! I am so sorry this has happened to you. OMG, you quit your job to take another job and now you have NO job. And your husband, too? You are in my thoughts...

Thought some of you might be interested in a thread I started in Nursing News:

OMG, I'm currently waiting on an answer to a job offer, that my husband and I would have to quit our jobs and move to the area, plus we are currently loosing our house. That makes me nervous, if I get a job offer and they would back out, then I would not have a job or a place to live. Thank goodness we have a camper:yeah: my prayers are with you and your family. People say - everything happens for a reason, just the reason doesnt seem so clear at this moment :bugeyes::bugeyes: take care

I'm sorry heartbrokenurse, that is terrible that they did that to you, but I've been hearing that has been happening a lot lately. Chin up, even though it's hard to see right now, things fall apart, for better things to fall into place.

I just got the call for a full time offer yesterday around 3:15pm. That was after a 5.5w wait since my interview. I can finally breathe!

I'm so sorry to hear that heartbroken. That's not fair and it scares me now! Ahhh!

Is anyone relocating TO West Virginia for a new grad position?? I accepted a position in WV and no NOTHING about the area...I'm just wondering if I'm the only one who is moving there for a job....and is anyone from WV having a hard time finding a new grad position?

Thanks = )

Heartbroken - I understand your frustration and your depression - but remember "joy comes in the morning" and take comfort in one thing that perhaps God has something EVEN BETTER in mind for both you AND your husband - and this is what I will pray for you. Honestly I could just cry for you. I've been having a frustrating job search also and my hospital is also on a hiring freeze. I listened to my voicemail messages one afternoon while driving and heard my recruiter telling me once again "nothing here at the hospital for you etc", I hung up and felt real blue. I mean afterall haven't we done everything we're supposed to - working at a hospital getting experience etc. Just then I pulled into a fast food establishment and a parked minivan pulled out in front of me - clearly on the back of their van was a VERY large bumper sticker like 11 X 14 that had a large cross on it and the words "FEAR NOT". I KNEW that this was a message just for me. WEEKS later I have just accepted an amazing position in a hospital that I really didn't think I would consider beforehand and kind of dragging my feet a bit I went to the interview and found that the unit manager was absolutely EVERYTHING I wanted in a manager and the job couldn't be more perfect - specialty unit, great hours, wonderful team, long orientation to assure good training etc. I knew this was a present from God - a present with a big bow right on top. My sister actually died at that hospital - 22 years old so you can understand my hesitancy to some degree. BUT God gives us gifts and works in unexpected ways. So......while your situation looks bleak He may be closing that door to open an even more exiting one. You are welcome to email me but either way I'd really like to know what works out for you in the NEAR future. I'll be praying!

Yesterday in class the instructors passed around a sheet on which we were supposed to write our name and if we were hired, where, full or part time, etc. If no job, don't write your name. Well I am one of the last ones in the class (of about 50) and there were only 10-12 names on it when it got to me. How depressing!

Well, here's my plan:

I have been on two interviews, no offers. I have put in literally 30 applications and been turned down numerous times due to "no experience". So, with my 14 year customer sales and service experience and with me getting a BSN, I started applying for non nursing jobs in the health care field, such as a pharmaceutical sales rep.

I will still take my boards in July, and hopefully by then, something will come along. Until then, I still got a house payment and bills so I'm taking anything I can get to get by for those two months. I am scheduled for Kaplan over 2 weekends and I'll study after work and on the weekends until then.

I can't sit around and wait on these hospitals. I'm gonna still sit for boards and hopefully, working in the healthcare field will give me a foot in the door for a RN position.

Good luck to everyone!
