May 2009 Graduates!!! Do you have a job yet?

Published

I was just curious if everyone is finding jobs? I personally only applied for one hospital as there are 4 within 30 miles from me, but the one I applied for is the closest. Everyone in my class including myself started applying in January and most of us interviewed in Feb. I haven't got a call yet but they said they would be calling this week....I am crossing my fingers!!!

Anyhow I know that everyone around here is pretty much not having a problem but I didn't know what it was like in other areas.

Whats the pay like?

benifits?

reimbursements?

The position I applied for actually is on the lower end of the pay scale, but the benefits and reimbursement outway what the other hospitals offer. So what factors did you calculate when finding your first job as an GN.

Sorry to see that so many people are having trouble finding jobs. Most of my class (30 ish people) have found jobs, even though the hospital that is affiliated with our NS sent out an email saying they had filled all of the internship positions. They are, however, opening up a new internship for med-surg "float" nurses to get some more people hired. I do know that people who are planning to move out of state are having diffuculties. I guess there are some good points to living in SW Missouri ( a FEW at least). Good luck to everyone!

i am graduating next week and applied atlest 5 different hospital.. its already been a month.. but guess what? i havent heard back from a single hospital yet.. i started to freak out... btw i am from Michigan.

I go to school in michigan but am moving back home to the east coast after graduating (in 19 days!!). i have a job at ORMC in New York on a med/surg floor. I can't wait to start.

Congrats to the other grads who have jobs, and good luck to those still looking. It is a long process, but try to stay positive and be persistent! Praying for you all...

Things are really tight around here. I'm not hearing of many in my class getting jobs, the recurrent theme is "I worked there as an aide/carepartner/tech ..."

Another oddity is that both of the systems that offered externships cut them too.

I got a position in a busy ED after my Tele supervisor told me the 2 GN positions she thought she had were used to bring in 2 RNs from PRN/Flex. I can only thank her, she made the end run to the ED Manager with my resume.

Yup! I got two job offers, the first one in the NICU at Gwinnett Medical (i tech there) and the second one from Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, Scottish Rite Hospital in their PICU. I accepted the PICU and go for my drug test tomorrow! I graduate this Saturday, May 9th. Just need to schedule NCLEX, Study, take exam, pass, and get license and i can start right away!

Yes, wait till you hear my story. I was offered a position at the Mayo Clinic in August 2008. I was given a start date in June. I started filling out the paperwork to start the job and my husband and I recently just quit both our jobs in preparation of leaving for my new exciting job! I got a call about a week ago from Mayo. They are resending all job offers. Now we are both unemployed and graduating in less than a month. Too late to sign up for Grad school; and my hospital is on a hiring freeze and won't hire me back to my position even though I'm not done working until the beginning of May. I'm scared now; I did not realize companies could do this to people. My plans and dreams are ruined. I've never been so depressed. How can I make sure that the next job offer I get does not turn out the same way?????

sounds like grounds for a lawsuit!

I graduated in March, was licensed last month and it is looking pretty awful around these parts (northern CA)-- very discouraged already! :crying2: I miss working with patients!

Doesn't look so good for me. Live in Tn, Graduate this Saturday. Can't find a job anywhere. What's so strange is that when you talk to recruiters they say apply we have plenty of jobs. You apply and never hear a word back. I really don't know if I will even find a job in a hospital. I may have to work in a nursing home and that would be my last resort.

What school do you go to prudence?

I have no job yet either. I have applied to several hospital in the Houston area, for several positions and no call. I have seen that several of my class mates that have jobs as GN's, got them because the had their foot in the door. They worked there as CNA's or tech's of some sort. Those like me who didn't haven't had any luck yet. Sort of discouraging, but Im sure after we pass our NCLEX it will be a bit easier, after all then we will have "RN" behind our name, right?? Gosh, I sure hope that's what happens. Good luck, and if anyone else knows how to get in, please let me know. Plus, it seems that you have to do all online apps. and I don't like that. I just feel like Im getting lost among thousands of applicants, you know? I don't know, any advice?

I got lucky and went to an open house, they were looking for 2 RN's with 1-2 years experience but I went anyway! I must have rocked the interview, they called me 9:00 next morning with a job offer!! Start in 2 weeks! I am so excited that they were willing to give me a chane. Good luck to everyone out there looking. I graduated in February and I was putting out applications for 3 months, It is not looking good for new grads in our area (NJ).

Who knew finding a nursing job could be so difficult? Fortunately my class and I have all gotten jobs. I guess it helps that our hospital's company also owns our nursing school, so I guess they're obligated to hire us. Our application process was done all online too and it was Kind of frustrating. I got the names, email addresses, and phone numbers of nursing managers for certain units I wanted to work and got in contact with them to let them know I was graduating soon and interested. I was able to get 3 offers, and found that going about it this way rather than relying on HR was much more effective. Good luck to everyone!!:wink2:
