Maricopa Nursing CEP 2019 (Applicants for April 1st - May 31st)

Published

There is already a post for CEP 2019 Summer Start so I figured I would make a new post for those applying next round. I am curious to see how many people plan to apply and how competitive this round will be.

I am applying to PVCC/NAU with 84 points. Thank you to those who participate and good luck next round! ????

I think Ottawa takes a 3.5 and above? They are one of the cheapest, and they now have a brick-and-mortar University in Surprise as well as satellite campuses in the Valley. Might be worth considering?

What does nursing classes mean? The nursing pre-req's??

Each University has their own way of calculating the GPA that they will use for acceptance. Ottawa is actually a 2.5, not a 3.5 as I said above (sorry, my mistake). For their GPA, they use:

  • EMG 101 & 102 or ENG 107 & 108
  • CRE 101
  • Mat 140 or higher
  • PSY 101 or 240
  • BIO 201 & BIO 202
  • BIO 205
  • HCR 240
  • And whichever humanities elective that you take

(In addition you will need CHM 130 and 130LL or high-school chemistry, but this is not included as part of your GPA that they use).

The only class here that is an additional requirement of Ottawa is the HCR 240, the other classes are required by Maricopa in order to apply to the program (in other words, most of them are "double-dip" classes). Note that Ottawa also has some co-requisite classes that MAY need to be completed prior to starting the program (check with your CC).

The other universities will likely have different pre-reqs and co-reqs, and will likely use a different combination of classes to formulate the GPA that they will use for acceptance to their online program.

Thus, by "nursing classes", I am pretty sure gomezy is referring to the nursing pre-reqs, yes.

To be absolutely sure exactly which classes you need to complete, check on the Maricopa CEP website page and scroll down to view the University brochures that will details exactly what is expected in order to apply to their program.

Like I mentioned above, each University will have their own parameters and GPA minimums that you need to meet. If you haven't decided on which university, I would suggest making a table so you can compare each one for their GPA, extra classes needed, cost of tuition, and so on. Whittle it down to 2 or 3 that you like, then really read the brochures and research the programs to see which one fits you the best. Call them and talk to the student advisors if possible to get a feel for their support and willingness to help you onboard.

perfect explanation!

Im really starting to think I wont get in , the advisors i dealt with at GWC gave me minimal information nor did they give me any pointers or a heads up about whats considered a competitive score. Anyway I tried my best Im a current senior at ASU I initially was going for their program but its too competitive so im giving this a shot. For some reason some of my As from ASU courses transferred over as Bs to gateway , apparently an A- equals a B even though they were 92/93 ... bummed because it messed up my GPA . So I applied with a 3.4 GPA and an overall hesi score of 87.6 (94 math, english comp 85.33) super nervous . has anyone heard back yet? GOODLUCK EVERYONE !

Are you applying again?

Would someone mind telling me what happens after you receive acceptance letters? Basically, I am trying to have a better understanding of what happens between getting accepted and entering the classroom. I would appreciate it. Thank you! Also, thank you all for posting a response and sharring your experience.

Which school did you apply to? Each school does things so differently.

After receiving my acceptance letter I received letters from both the university and community college stating what to do next. My university had me attend an orientation on their campus once and my community college required me to attend 3 several hour long orientations. They go over all the requirements and documentation you need to submit before starting nursing classes. The orientations were really helpful! Basically the school just makes sure you have all your vaccinations/titers/TB tests/CPR certifications submitted and will inform you more about the program and what your schedule may look like as a nursing student. Hope this helps! Good luck!

I received my acceptance email and letter from my university first, contingent on my acceptance by the community college. I then got an email about 2 weeks after the close of the application date from the CC. It gave me a week (if I recall) to say yes or no to the place offered. From that point on, I got periodic emails that kept me abreast of what was required.

There was quite a lot to complete before CC starts such as immunizations, purchase your lab-kit, books (about $700 give or take), uniform, shoes, and so on. We had to sign up for a website (you have to pay for) where you upload your documents into one place for ease of tracking by the school, as well as a website where all your clinical rotation information has to be uploaded. There is also a website where your attendance and feedback from clinical rotation is uploaded. Most of these are available as Apps, I believe.

For the university, it depends on which Uni you are with, but you'll be starting those the semester before CC (typically, although each Uni is slightly different so obviously check with your particular one!). I think NAU has an in person class, for example, whereas all my classes were online.

As it got close to the start of the CC classes, we had to attend an orientation. This gave us an overview of what to expect, a chance to meet our classmates and professors, and ask questions. It's definitely worth attending if you can.

As for preparing for your first CC class, I would suggest brushing up on A&P, disease processes, medical terminology, and math.

HTH!

@Kaldrich06 Hey! I applied to EMCC and NAU. By any chance, do you know how things work with them?

@RoseRNBSNThank you for taking the time to let me know! That helps. By the way, congratulations on starting nursing school. How is it?

@Apple-CoreWell, I know who to go now if I have any questions haha. Thank you so much. That information was very useful, so thank you again. Got any good advice?
