Maricopa Nursing CEP 2019 (Applicants for April 1st - May 31st)

Published

There is already a post for CEP 2019 Summer Start so I figured I would make a new post for those applying next round. I am curious to see how many people plan to apply and how competitive this round will be.

I am applying to PVCC/NAU with 84 points. Thank you to those who participate and good luck next round! ????

@Kaldrich06 Hey! I applied to EMCC and NAU. By any chance, do you know how things work with them?

@DylDL28 Unfortunately, I do not. I am sorry. But I'm sure there will be plenty of people who are and are happy to help out. Did you find the facebook group? There are a lot of people on that group.

@Kaldrich06 That's alright, and please do not be sorry. I didn't know there was a Facebook group but I am definitely going to check it out. Would you mind letting me know what the group is called?

@DylDL28 its called "Maricopa Nursing Program - U.S.A". Are you applying for spring 2021?

What is it you want to know about EMCC and NAU?

My advice before you start school would be to brush up on your A&P, especially diabetes, heart, lung, bowel diseases. Start learning/refresh medical terminology. Start looking into medications. Brush up on math.

@Kaldrich06Thank you, I appreciate you letting me know. No, I submitted my CEP application last month, and the faculty is about to meet in order to decide who gets accepted. I hope I'll start in August. You know haha. I'm going to go check out the Facebook group.

@DylDL28 Good luck! I hope you get in this round. Everyone says nursing school is so different, but I never quite understood until now. The tests are different, the learning is different, the material is different. But it's fun and I am thoroughly enjoying the learning process. I'm at Mesa and its a bit different in that we do what's called the "flipped classroom" where we watch lectures and read before class. So when we come to class, we aren't learning anything new, we are just instilling the knowledge we just gained. It has been the best learning environment I have ever been in (and I have my 4 year degree already). I hope your college of choice is as amazing as Mesa.

I currently go to EMCC & NAU and I completely love both schools!

NAU, I believe, but don’t quote me, is the only university where the first semester is in person. You get a lot of practice with using medical equipment and head to toe assessments! So when we were going through it at EMCC, it was just review.

Also, the instructors at EMCC are very thorough. They try not to overwhelm us with much readings and so far it’s been doable while working full time!

@RoseRNBSNThank you for taking the time to let me know! That helps. By the way, congratulations on starting nursing school. How is it?

Thank you! The first few weeks have been really good so far! I think the workload is pretty manageable and not too stressful but I don't want to speak too soon haha. The biggest thing I see students struggling with is staying organized (not knowing deadlines or important dates, and planning time to study), being on time, and studying effectively with good notes. Everything we've been tested on is cumulative throughout the whole semester so it's important to really learn the information so you'll remember it throughout the 2 years of nursing school and not to just cram info and dump it all after an exam.

Thank you! With a score of 81.7 I think you'll have a good chance of getting accepted. To answer your questions, I believe at my community college (SCC) they accept 40/45 CEP students, and 40/45 regular program nursing students. I think this is the average amount of seats for a maricopa cc, but I know some may have a few more/less.

I was told that clinical hours will be scheduled on any day of the week, they could be at any clinical agency, and they are almost exclusively day shifts (6 - 12 hour shifts). I apologize for a late reply, but if you have any more questions I'd be happy to answer. ?

Had a quick question. Did you get your acceptance the 1st day when emails were scheduled to go out. Or did you get in a couple days after a or a week later?

Well, I think we are looking at the 10 day countdown till acceptance emails begin being distributed. I really hope that the bulk of the emails are sent on the 24th. This has been one of the most difficult waits I've ever endured.

Wishing everyone luck!

@Kaldrich06That really helps, thank you. Good luck to you as well. I'm sure you'll do great. I'll keep what you said about the lectures and classroom processes in mind for sure. You sound like you really enjoy it & that's something I want too. If you think of anything else you can think of that I should let me know, I'd appreciate any more advice. Although the info you gave is great. Thanks!

@AjMKHey! I'm really happy for you that you are loving nursing school. Quick question. Did you have to send in an application to NAU for admission while waiting to be accepted by EMCC/NAU? Or does that happen all at once when they accept a nursing candidate? Also, I chose NAU for that exact reason (going to NAU Phx campus for the first semester) and to complete my associates. I'm even more excited now that you told me your experience at the NAU campus, and that the nursing professors at EMCC are great. Thank you for sharing that!
