I am just curious about holiday pay at other facilities.
The hospital I work at considers there to be 6 holidays per year. Christmas day, New Years day, Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day, Thanksgiving.
They do not pay us more for holidays worked. We can claim an extra 8 hours PTO, but it comes out of PTO already accumulated we get no extra. :angryfire
Just wondering how this compares to other hospitals, nursing homes, etc.
Also do the holidays vary for night shift versus days or pms?

In UK we have 8 public holidays (called bank holidays as the banks are traditionally closed) Plus I get 30 days paid annual leave - standard working week, 37.5 hours over 5 days any one with 10yrs service now should get 35 days annual leave.
I work one weekend in three
If you work a bank holiday you get enhanced rate of pay and a day off 'in lieu' to be taken with pay whenever you like, WELL WORTH WORKING THESE :chuckle

Good Friday
Easter Monday
May Day holiday
Spring Bank Holiday
August Bank holiday
Christmas Day
Boxing day (Day after Christmas day)

We get time and a half on Xmas and New Years, and $2.00 more on the others you mentioned.
We have not holiday time per se. I get 30 days a year of personal time off (PTO) that I can take as I choose.

New Year's Day( for day shift), Martin Luther King Day, President's Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Years Eve for Pm's and Nites( they come on 11p on New years Eve)
They are all double pay.
I am per diem and I only have to work/be scheduled for one of the big ones, Thankgiving, Xmas Eve, Xmas or the New years Holiday( eve for pms, noc). I was scheduled to work tonight New Year's eve and got cancelled. Mixed feelings about that. Wanted the double pay and also have no plans but now I don't have to drive home with the party goers on the rode. It fufills my holiday obligation too.

We do not get any holiday pay at the major hospital that I work at. The pay scale is the same as any other day. We accumulate our FTO(flexible time off) hours per pay period. For full time, you get approx 6 hrs per q 2 weeks. I have to work most of the majot holidays, away from my family but get no financial incentive to do so. I am working now and get off at 3am after a 12hr shift. Personally, I think it stinks!! :angryfire At my previous employer, we thought it was bad to get time and a half for major holidays in the winter only. That was better than what I have now. The only difference now is that I love my job and the people I work with. I guess there is always a trade off!! :uhoh21:

My last post in the UK gave me 30 days off per year. Which is comparable to others I have seen on this discussion. The nice part about my leave however is the fact that as I work 3 x 12 1/2 hr shifts per week the 30 days can be stretched to 8 weeks off if you plan your work schedule properly.
Now I am travel nursing in Arizona... an 18 month contract... with ONE week paid leave per year (sob, sob). I wouldn't mind if I was earning as much as some of my travel colleagues... but I don't (and by a long way). Roll on end of contract when I can qualify for sign on/ completion bonuses.

NY Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Day are hospital holidays. We are paid time & a half. Then we have 2 non-hospital holidays that are including in our rotation...Christmas Eve and New Yrs. Eve. As a full-time staff member I am required to work 4 out of 8 days.
We get 8 hrs. in our holiday bank for the 6 major holidays regardless if we work them or not.
On a side note, in our department, those nurses who have called in sick the least for the year are placed a list in order of least number of sick calls combined with senority and if we have low census they are offered call first....

I start working at a county nursing home Monday and we get 12 holidays and 1 floating holiday. I believe we get double time pay.

we were told that once we chose nursing as a career, we chose to work holidays, it was compared to being in the military. actually we were suggesting that any employee working the actual holiday should get time and 1/2, not just nursing. all employees get 6 holidays added into our PAL account, which includes vacations, sick days and holidays. it was also stated that the nursing staff was threatening to provide substandard care if we did not get holiday pay. i can tell you, that would never happen with the wonderful staff i work with, the only substandard would come from decreased staff working.

We get 13 holidays, 9 of those are time and a half
3 weeks paid vacation per year
12 sick days per year
40 hours paid time off for continuing education
and 2/3 tuition reduction at UCLA (after you work there for 6 months)
