  3. Kay, I wear tunic & trousers (I dont have the legs for a dress)...but work out in the community ... do you suggest I don't wear my uniform outside of the hospital :chuckle LOL. I have been challenged whilst 'at work' by public spirited individuals who tell me I should not be wearing my uniform outside of the hospital, (particularly after recent MRSA stories in the press). I have to explain that I am at work.......
  4. :) Yes I tend to agree the phlebs comments were inappropriate but if I get my blood taken I ALWAYS go to the phlebotomist - That is what she does all day everyday and is very skilled in that procedure. :)
  5. I'm well aware of the debate in the uK at the moment vis chidhood vaccinations. As the mother of four children my personal belief is that kids are like dogs, shoudn't be allowed out of the house with out their shots.... Children are now dying from these common childhood diseases that their parents have decided not to have them vacinated against. measles, whooping cough, polio etc. I have a nephew who has autism, there is No proven link between this and vaccination but his mother continues to believe his condition has been caused by child vaccinations. I worry for all those children whose parents have made an 'informed choice' not to have vaccination, but understand the fear of the parent.
  6. Most peeps here only too happy to help. Its a very kind site.
  7. Thank you for youbadvice, its just my pet dislike, it makes my knees wobbly
  8. Larry I get stressed, I'm a community staff nurse in District Nursing. I used to relieve stress by going out for a drive, now driving is part of my stress. There are days when the road appears to be full of homicidal maniacs out to get me and days when I am driving The Invisable Car. Alcohol is out as a stress reliever as I can't risk being over the limit the day after. Nobody asks about stress in nurses because nurses often don't care for each other and nurse managers are powerless to relieve the pressures that cause stress. You are looking at pandoras box, don't open it. The thing I fear most is prominent, wobbly veins.
  9. In UK we have 8 public holidays (called bank holidays as the banks are traditionally closed) Plus I get 30 days paid annual leave - standard working week, 37.5 hours over 5 days any one with 10yrs service now should get 35 days annual leave. I work one weekend in three If you work a bank holiday you get enhanced rate of pay and a day off 'in lieu' to be taken with pay whenever you like, WELL WORTH WORKING THESE :chuckle Bank Holidays in UK: New Years Day Good Friday Easter Monday May Day holiday Spring Bank Holiday August Bank holiday Christmas Day Boxing day (Day after Christmas day) How does this compare to where you work?
  10. undefined Over the years I have had a succession of minis, clubman, coopers, estates, but no longer drive one, still love the little things tho, We have one rotting in my parents haystore, 1972 convertable....hubby says it is scrap now as not dry storage, big shame, he had promised to restore for my graduation.... much too late now.... Cost of living? petrol currently approx 80p per litre. Loaf of bread 20p (economy white sliced yuck) - £1.25 (nice crusty organic...) tin of baked beans - economy 9p branded 40p +. Cost of houses depend entirely on where in country. in suffolk £145,000 for 3 bed house in town, villages much more expensive. Houses much smaller than in US and fewer bathrooms.. If you have specific pricing queries ask away! :wink2: (Pint of beer approx £2.10 in town pub)
