can anyone tell me what the regs are for admitting some one to a psych unit?
seen it happen and I called all over trying to find out if this was actually legal. a doctor never saw the Pt., no prior work up, nothing, just slapped them into a psych ward and made them sign a paper stating that they could talk to their family or they wouldn't be discharged. I am just having problems with the way this state functions. It seems like no one has any rights unless you have money or some kind of power.

How many nurses here have their license currently suspended?
when I first came to this state I couldn't believe what they were suspending licenses for. some were for real serious stuff but a lot was for things that were simply caused by poor management. when a DON or supervisor uses their power foolishly and people are getting hurt then it is time to call them up and make them defend their actions time and time again. after awhile it just might sink in as to what they were doing. a good DON should be able to tell the difference from an incompetent nurse and one that is being railroaded or a nurse that is being setup to make mistakes. I honestly believe that a good facility would want to have their nurses do well instead of making it 100x harder then writing them up or worse reporting them to the BON.

can anyone tell me what the regs are for admitting some one to a psych unit?
I don't think it I know it. here if some one calls the cops and tells them your "thinking " about suicide the cops come haul you off and they take you right to a psych ward, no physical,no dr. untill the next day and that is a psych dr. that sees you for 15 minutes and they keep you 48 hrs if its not on the weekend, then they force you to sign a paper giving them permission to talk to your family or they won't let you out. No urine test to see if a UTI is present or drugs, and no blood work like you said checking for any thyroid ect. problems.

can anyone tell me what the regs are for admitting some one to a psych unit?
years ago they would have to have them physically examined to rule out a physical problem, has this changed? can we now just admit people directly to a psych unit for court commitment without a physical and keep them there for over 48 hrs. against their will? are we going backwards instesd of forward with mental illness? or is this all just a scam?

How many nurses here have their license currently suspended?
now this made me smileI got written up by a social worker because I put a cough drop in my mouth in the dinning room, can't call off when your ill, can't cough, can't put a cough drop in your mouth. is this not totally off the wall. I once had vomiting and diarrhea for 2 solid days, and the 3rd day I was able to start keeping liquids and crackers down. got the bug from place of employment but got written up because I as an RN didn't go to a doc to have them tell me that I had the flu. one nurse actually went to work with this diarrhea that was going around because she was afraid to call off. lets just spread it around a bit.

Is there nursing after 50?
the disability is in the fact that my legs do not bend period. has it gotten worse from the wear and tear of 24 years in nursing? yes. Do I want to give up nursing? no. Do I have a lot to offer? yes! Do I have the means to find a company that would appreciate what I have to offer instead of using me as a quota filler? don't know. Had an interview where the DON told me that she already had one of those as she pointed to a guy walking by that was obviously handycapped. Is this a preconcieved notion before she even interviewed me? absolutely. Do I want to give in to this discrimination by taking a job beneath me? absolutely not. Do I deserve to be an RN? absolutely. Do I have the skills and knowledge to be an RN? absolutely. Is there much more to this story? absolutely.

Is there nursing after 50?
stevie every agency that I have called wants 1-2 years recent hospital experience and I don't have it. I have never had my license in jepordy before. I am in a different state. I have been on multiple interviews, in fact I have one on Monday. I was hoping that that hearing I went to would have given me something to show that I wasn't fired for good cause, no decision has been made yet. By the way how do you know if I had "so many jobs" I never mentioned how many jobs I have had. are you advising people not to talk to me because you are some how involved in what I am going through or are you just looking to make yourself look all important?

Is there nursing after 50?
sorry I disagree with the notion that RN is not the right fit for me. Unless you are telling me because I have a disability that I can't do this or are you telling me that the profession is that shallow and RN's are really nothing more than a bunch of egotistical B_ _ _ _ _ _ _. I have repeatedly defended RN's because there are a great number of people that look down on this particular group of professionals. I did this as an LPN and not just because I am one. Maybe just the title is why people are looking down on me? just some food for thought.

I didn't want to put this on here but my situation can't get any worse and I am sure that some people would still find fault with me any way. when I spoke of that accident I had many years ago it was a contributing fact in my present situation. DVR (department of rehabilitation) sent me to school for LPN back when I was 25. I worked in LTC for 14 years then got my RN and yes I do have limitations, there are things and jobs that I just can't physically do. because the arthritis set in early and I had a stiff knee I had a TKR in 1990 relieved the knee joint pain but caused much more pain such as nerve pain from nerves being stretched after 14 years of being straight, gained 35 degree flexion in this knee, where I am going with this is that without a car walking outside causes such severe pain that I literally can't walk after a short distance, I do not have this problem walking in doors on flat surfaces only when I walk on graded surfaces. I have checked into DVR for help and all they will do is put me on a waiting list. hitting 50 seems to be a harder than usual time trying to get employment as I am sure they are well aware of my physical limitations to begin with. I have had to deal with many a nurses narrow minded views regarding these limitations. as a nurse I know which areas I would not be able to do. I might be able to make it to the corner but there are no buses there when I get there.

"the victim keeps getting victimized" this is what happens when you try to talk to some one about what is going on. this is why they (being the perpatrators) can get away with it people in general would rather blame the victim than to believe that it is actually happening this is why any type of abuse is allowed to continue it is much easier to blame the victim then to admit that we don't have an answer or that we can't help, especially as nurses, we want to help and we try but when it is so far beyond us instead of just admitting that we can't help we end up blaming the victim I am neither crazy or stupid just the victim of a string of circumstances that were not of my doing. I again apologize if I apeared ungracious and I hope you will look at yourself

Is there nursing after 50?
I thought I apologized for the misunderstanding. and I think they are using the license for a business. and yes years ago there was more money reported on my social security and yes I told them about it. I have a compact state license. there are about 10 or so states that they would be able to go work at. as far as my license goes the number can be gotten on the internet if you know the name. and none of this is made up so I am sorry that you feel had. try living through some of this. there are no buses in this town not even the greyhound and one doesn't come any closer than 50 miles near here. what a society, when you get older or sick that is also blamed on you. are you insinuating that I am lying. and that did happen to my daughter and grandaughter, I don't believe that I said they were trying to kill her. maybe the ambulance bill would convince you when I had to send her to the hospital for the over dose or the police report. and just maybe this all is just too much for you to comprehend and I do apologize for that.

Is there nursing after 50?
sorry it wasn't meant like that, I am just tired of people telling me it's my fault, and that I should look at myself, I have done that before anyone ever said anything. there is always more to a story and I cannot talk about it on an open thread. I just don't think people understand and they can't without knowing everything and I apologize for that and I hope that people can understand the fact that I am having a very difficult time right now and I really don't think it is going to get anybetter. so I am giving a general apology for any time that I may sound "ungracious" as I do not have a lot of time left and really was hoping for some ideas that I haven't already thought of. Some one was using my nursing License, they tried to charge something in my name, my life was threatened and I think I was being used unknowingly as a pawn. if this sounds crazy try living it, alone and you can't get any kind of help to put a stop to it, it just goes on and on. Simply because I don't know who the hell is doing it. My brother told me "they are getting every one around you" who they are I don't know. but whatever they are doing it sure has cost me my friends and family. I probably shouldn't even be saying this on here.
