Had a dad call and berate me because his daughter has lice. She was scratching so much she couldn't concentrate. He had the nerve to say "it must be nice to make salary and be able miss whenever you want!" To which I quickly put him in his place as I DO NOT make salary. And little does he know, he probably makes more than I do. Sir, I cannot help it that when I sent her home on Wednesday that you didn't treat her, is what I wanted to say. (according to the child no tx, dad says he did.) "She feels singled out!" Okay, well tell her to stop telling everyone she has lice, I know I didn't tell, and her teacher didn't tell... "I'm taking her to get her head-shaved!" You do that, it will really help with her feeling singled out.

Yup. He said "we haven't seen anything in her hair!" Which is why I catch them on scotch tape but somehow he signs her out without me seeing him. I told him I would be happy to show them the bugs crawling in her hair, but he signed her out without asking to see me while I was assessing my possible concussion kid.

Omiword!! I had a student that had lice for 2 months (said the lice salon lady) and the next day mama was going around telling everyone it was MY fault! Huh? I'm the one who found it but it was still somehow the school nurse's fault that she had it to begin with??
I'm well into page 2 of documentation today, as well. That hasn't happened in awhile. And I was sick all weekend so the house is way behind so I get to go home and dig into the mess that has resulted there. CALGON!!

I've heard nurses like to keep lice in plastic baggies pinned to a board...must be so they can plant them in kids hair. KNEW IT!

ugh - i had a student with lice last year. I sent her home so mom could get a jump on treatment and the kid could possibly even come back later on that day if well treated. Mom was nice as anything. I showed her what I saw, told her what to do, even gave her some coupons and sent her on her way. Well, dad was not so cordial. I got a nasty phone call asking me what qualified me to "diagnose" his child with lice. I calmly explained that no diagnosis was necessary - that my 13 years as a school nurse made me confident in identifying them, but if he felt as though he needed a medical doctor to give a formal dx, then by all means to go ahead and to take her. (but trust be, the money would be much better spent on manners lessons than the copay) Then he demanded that I track the source of them.
oh my gawd!! I am dying over here!!
I heard that as well. I thought it was an Urban Myth.

True...but you can't wait too long. Because now, we all have the scientific proof. The little buggers won't live forever in plastic baggies.
I'm still crying over this. Cruelty to Lice!

I think I just felt a disturbance in the Force.
Is this a euphemism? Did you just fart?
