Ages of male nursing students?

Nursing Students Male Students

Published

Of the 23 other students comprising the group that I entered nursing school with, three of them are men. The class that is graduating at the end of next week I believe has 1 male student, and as far as I know the class immediately behind mine has 1 as well. This is about 60 students (some classes have had students drop), with 6 of them being males; that's only 1 in 10.

So we know that male nurses are few and far between, but how old are we?

The 1 student in the class graduating next week is 28.

The 1 student in the class that entered the semester after mine is at least 30 (a second career-er I believe).

Of the 4 in my class, 2 are about 45, 1 is 40, and then there is me...21.

How old are you guys? How old when you started school?

Just curious.

The three guys who graduated in my class this month (including me) are all 29. It seemed to be a pretty average age in my class.

Specializes in geriatrics, IV, Nurse management.

I graduated with 5 male nurses. 3 were between 20-30. 1 30-40. Last was 1 over 50. Great bunch of nurses! I appluade you guys and look forward to seeing you on the floors!:)

there are 4 male RNs on my floor and we're all in our late twenties/early thirties

I will be 33 when I start an accelerated BSN program in January 2011.

I am 32, commencing my Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) this fall.

I'm 22 in a 4 year BSN/FNP program, currently in btw my 1st and 2nd yr. There are 15 males out of 150 students in my class. 1 dropped out after the 1st semester. I am the youngest male. Few mid-high 20s. Few early 30s. Dont know the rest.

well, i've been told unofficially to get ready to start my first year of nursing school in the fall... but i'm still waiting on that official letter. . . .

I'm 27 and will be starting my BSN.

Specializes in CCRN-CSC-CMC.

I am 37 years old, and starting ADN this fall. This is my second career. I was a police Sergeant in England. I served from 1998 to 2009.

Specializes in Emergency Nursing.

I am 45 but I don't feel old.

I recently applied for a position on a CPCU floor in the hospital where I work.

Having finished MedSurg I, I can work as a tech now, making a bit more per hour and with permission to perform more nursing skills. I found myself wondering, for the first time, really, if I might end up not getting this job because of my age.

There weren't but three applicants and only the two internals are being seriously considered (myself and another), but if the other person is twenty-five, I wonder if I'll get the nod.

This hospital has a reputation for being very male-friendly in nurse hiring, so I guess we'll see, but it's just odd to even be thinking this...lol

I started my schooling last year, 31 now and finishing my pre-req's this fall. Hope to enter the program in spring.

Im 37 and starting a second degree BSN program in the Fall. I am winding down an Active Duty Army career as a Military Police officer and will now be starting my second career as a nurse. I am married and have 3 kids.

I am currently finishing my science pre-reqs for nursing school. I am 20, and turning 21 in December of 2012. :D

I'm new nice to meet you guys!
