I was accepted into the MSN-FNP program. I live in Jamestown/High Point. I received my acceptance letter via email on 5-3-2016. On Monday (6-6-2016), I was told that the MSN-FNP nursing orientation would be on 7-19-2016 from 8am-5pm. Then the Graduate school orientation would be at 6pm, the same day. I was also told that we should be receiving a flyer about the nursing orientation. I was told that it would be mailed out yesterday, but I still have not received it. If anyone receives this flyer about the orientation, can you post it to the message board?

By the way, my name is Andy. I am very glad to be going to GTCC, as I live in Jamestown. I also work at Moses Cone Hospital. Just in case I didn't get into to GTCC, I appled to DCCC, Randolph & FTCC. I might actually consider DCCC, if I get accepted into their hybrid/online program.

I was accepted as well. Am I going to be the only guy??

I received my rejection letter today. I will be calling on Monday, to see if I can find out the reason for my rejection.

I just called WSSU and I talked to Ms. ****. She told me that information was mailed out yesterday.

I will be 33 when I start an accelerated BSN program in January 2011.

I would suggest becoming a CNA first. You should easily be able to handle the trainging for this. Some states allow you to challenge the CNA exam, without having any training. If this is the case in your state, I am sure that you mother could show all you need to know. If you think that you are going to struggle with school, I would go with getting your Associate degree in Nursing. You will still be able to become an RN & maybe your employee will pay for your BSN!

I will be submitting my application in August for January 2012. I look forward to getting a BSN in the shortest time possible. I am currently working in a hospital, I hope this experience helps in the application process. Good luck to all that apply!

I had a little old lady tell me that I had a "goat head." What does that even mean?

I took my exam in Greensboro. It was stressful, but I passed. I suggest that you study the manual that the state provides. It tells you everything that you need to know. There are also videos on youtube that you can watch.

You will probably get used to the smell of BMs. I just finished A&P I. All of my lab partners were complaining on the smell of the cats were dissecting. For me, it walk a cakewalk, compared to BMs all day. One thing that can be worse than a BM is a catheter bag that has been stewing all day!

I am in NC. In NC we do have a position called Medication Aide. I believe that these employees can distribute some medications. If your friend is passing meds, injecting insulin, etc, she should be a nurse! Your friend could be in real trouble if the state came knocking!

If you can manage to work as a CNA during nursing school, I would reccomend it. Even if you are PRN or Relief. At least you would be in the system. Your chances are most likely higher at a location where you are already employed. I will be starting an accelerated nursing program in January 2011. My plan is to keep working at the hospital as much as I can through school.

I decided that I wanted to be a nurse, after my wife was in the hospital for 2 weeks. At the time, it was too later for me to apply for the accelerated program that was starting in 1 month. So, I decided to go challenge the NC state CNA exam. I passed easily. It took me about 2 months to find a CNA job. So far, I love it! I figure that it is a whole lot cheaper to become a CNA first, to see if you like it. It would be terrible for you to finish nursing school only to realize that you hate it! I always let the nurses know that I am going to school, so they come find me when they have something interesting.

I would suggest that you do any CNA work. If you plan to do home health after nursing school, then take the job with Bayada. If you don't want to work in home health, try to find a job in a hospital or nursing home. Any of these places should work with your schedule, if they know you are a student. If you do a good job as a CNA, they will likely offer you a job as a nurse! Make as many connections as possible!
